Transforming lives through Jesus Christ
January 22, 2009
Greetings!

This week has been a significant week in the life of our nation.  We celebrated the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a call for a national day of service and I know that some took up the challenge to play a role in Monday's efforts.  On Tuesday we witnessed the exchange of presidential power as our outgoing leader left Washington and the inauguration of the incoming leader took center stage.  Today life returned to the normalcy of what we have been facing for some time and what we will continue to face for some time to come.  I find it fascinating that we do not look at each and every day as significant.  We just finished a series talking about things that emotionally and spiritually weigh us down and the fact that each day presents us with a significant opportunity to experience an unshackling from these things.  This coming Sunday we begin a new series talking about detours in life.  God designed each of us to live centered in his presence.  Each day we have a significant opportunity to make a decision to live in God's presence; to have the burdens lifted that weigh us down so that we can be free to pursue the heart of God.  Reality is that we take detours and these detours take us away from God and more toward our own destructive desires.  Come join me in worship this Sunday.  Let's discover together what it means for us to avoid these detours so that we can live centered-lives that make a difference in the world around us.  Worship is at 9am and 10:30am!  You are welcome to come to either service!  Worship is a significant moment to encounter God!  You didn't miss out on the significance of Monday and Tuesday; don't miss out on the significance of Sundays!

Radical Hospitality
Can you make some time on Sunday, January 25th after the second service to gather with the Radical Hospitality teams?  We'll eat and have some fellowship time.  Then we'll talk through some simple ways for all of us to coordinate our Hospitality efforts.  We'll wrap things up by 1:00 "ish".
We are wide open to ideas on ways to keep doing things well and how to best organize this ministry.
Think about how can we keep energized about this ministry and find a nice balance in everyone's schedule. Feel free to think outside the box.  We don't always have to do things the same way simply because we have always done it that way. How might we rethink our processes and procedures?  What leadership system can we implement to assure effective Radical Hospitality is offered up on Sunday mornings and beyond.
Please let Rissa Glick, 781-7604, know if you are interested and will or will not be able to attend.

Superbowl Party
On February 1st, the two top teams will battle it out to be number 1 in the NFL and you're invited to come watch it on the BIG screen at the church! Admission is a can of soup, which we will deliver to In As Much Ministries.  Questions? Contact Matt Slater, 781-7604 or (9814) 706-2441.

Greetings from Tennessee
Hey y'all,
Just wanted to let you know how excited Brenda and I were to be back at North Star last Sunday.  We really enjoyed seeing everyone.  The last time we got that many hugs was when we left.  Maybe it's because we were part of a new church,  but we still feel like North Star's our home church.  We are always with you in spirit and you are always in our prayers.  Enjoyed meeting Jim for the first time.  I can see why we keep hearing so many great things about him.  God bless y'all and we will look forward to our next visit.  Of course, you are always welcome to visit us in Tennessee.

Randy and Brenda Reeder

Blessings
