Making those health and fitness changes for a better lifestyle can be very challenging- after all self control is a limited resource! BUT- it is not nearly as impossible as you think! Attention Members!-New Equipment!!!
The Y says Happy New Year to our members by bringing you the best new fitness equipment on the market! The Englewood YMCA will be getting a Stairmaster Step Mill, an amazing machine that operates like an escalator - giving you a leg strength and cardiovascular workout simultaneously. Also new in Englewood, will be the TRX Suspension Training system. This is cutting edge functional strength equipment is simply two straps hanging from a support beam. You'll be floored by the strength training options possible with this system. TRX training will occur in small group classes.
In Venice, get ready for Precor's AMT trainers. The AMT's deliver "user defined motion", meaning you can use them as an elliptical, a treadmill or cycling motion all in the same workout. Move the way you want, when you want. They are awesome! |

YMCA Annual PARTNERS WITH YOUTH Fundraising Campaign! |
|
This year's PARTNERS WITH YOUTH campaign theme is "Change From Every Dollar", and our goal is to raise $50,000 to benefit our YMCA Children and Family Scholarship Fund and provide new programs and services for people of all ages in Englewood and Venice, regardless of their ability to pay.
In the past year, our YMCA provided $518,129 in financial assistance to more than 1300 people for YMCA programs such as preschool and school-age childcare, youth sports, summer camps, swim lessons, gymnastics, and more. We partnered with more than 60 schools, churches, and local organizations, and provided the use of our facilities to many of these groups at no charge. The YMCA is here to serve our community.
During this holiday season, we're asking every YMCA member to please make a contribution. Particularly this year, in these difficult economic times, the needs of local children and families is greater than ever. Your donation of any size makes a tremendous difference, so please, when members of our YMCA staff or volunteers ask, please give. We thank you for your kindness and generosity, and for embodying the YMCA core values of respect, responsibility, caring, faith, and honesty. With your support, there will be "Change From Every Dollar".
Stop by the Venice YMCA front desk and make a donation today! |
| VENICE & ENGLEWOOD: Medically-Based Wellness: Lose Weight In 2008! |
Well, it's that time of year again. It's time to ring in the holidays, celebrate to excess, and make a resolution to never do it again. The most common New Year's Resolution is to lose weight, and for a good reason: according to the Center for Disease Control, the prevalence of obesity has increased 74 percent since 1991. The weight loss industry has thrived on this, inventing new pills and creams to help you lose weight. But is it working? Statistics say no: 95 percent of dieters will regain their lost weight in one to five years. So, what can we do to make sure that the weight comes, and stays, off? The answer is simple, and it's not found in a pill. It's all about LIFESTYLE CHANGE.
