6th ANNUAL HAWAIIAN LUAU

The South County Family YMCA was host to the 6th Annual Hawaiian Luau on Saturday, August 25, 2007. This annual friendraiser event is our way to say "THANK YOU" to all of our sponsors and donors. Close to 500 people attended and many local guests were able to see the new Michael & Georgia Miller Venice YMCA facility. This year over 50 sponsors, contributed to the success of the Luau helping to raise $12,000 to benefit the YMCA Children and Families Scholarship Fund. Seven tiki hut bars and nine local restaurants supplied a variety of great food and drinks. Local celebrity musicians, "The Cryin' Shames" and DJ Jay Goodley kept the crowd grooving and dancing throughout the night. On behalf of the South County Family YMCA we would like to thank everyone who attended and contributed to this fabulous event. It is through the generosity of people like you that the YMCA is able to continue building strong kids, strong families, and strong communities.

VENICE: Active Older Adult Focus Group

Are you an Active Older Adult (AOA)? If so, we want to hear from you. The SCF YMCA is in the planning process of creating a menu of offerings geared toward the active, vital 55+ community.  But we don't want to go it alone - we want your input about what types of fitness classes, social events, groups, trips, and educational opportunities you are the most interested in.

In Venice, there will be focus group meetings on Monday, September 10th at 9:30 AM and Tuesday, September 11th at 10:30 AM. Please attend either of these focus groups to speak up for what activities you would like to see brought to your YMCA.

Two focus groups have already met in Englewood, but there is still plenty of time to register your opinion. Please contact Jennifer Tucker (jtucker@veniceymca.org), Deb Betterly (dbetterly@veniceymca.org) or Eva Scherer (escherer@engymca.org) in Englewood and let them know your ideas.
