Greetings!

reportWelcome to the November issue of Pet Industry Marketing.

Every business owner and marketer will probably agree that the hardest part of their job is winning new customers. When people don't know you, they don't trust you. And when they don't trust you they don't buy from you.

Many people think of selling as a one step process. You tell people what you have to offer and they buy it. However, it is not always that simple. Successful selling involves several steps. In this month's article we're going to talk about how to move a curious prospect, a little closer to the sale.

How to Win New Customers

It's a simple fact of life: people hate to part with their money. Running a business would be an easy and enjoyable experience if people simply walked in and handed you their cash or credit card. Unfortunately it usually does not work that way.

People want to know who you are before they decide to hand over their hard earned money.

Asking your prospects to part with their money is a tough request. It is a step most people consider with great deliberation. And sometimes people want a lot of information before they decide to purchase your product or use your services. Instead of expecting people to immediately do business with you, try offering your prospects smaller, soft steps.

What are these soft steps? They are not free gifts, rather they are direct introductions to your products or services.  They help people get acquainted with who you are and what you do, with absolutely no risk to themselves. Before long, they begin to feel like they know you. Once you have gained trust and credibility you have a much better chance of making a sale.

Here are 10 things you can offer prospects to help them get better acquainted with your company:

1. Offer a free brochure
2. Offer a free DVD
3. Offer a free sample
4. Offer a free consultation
5. Offer a free estimate
6. Offer a free newsletter
7. Offer a free booklet
8. Offer a free seminar
9. Offer a free tour of your facility
10. Offer a free CD

These offers are easy to accept. They involve no risk. But they increase the likelihood that your prospects will eventually make a final purchase. The more expensive and complicated your products are, the more important it is to offer risk-free options. Providing your customers with soft steps is vital for successful marketing. The purpose of each step is to move the prospect closer to the sale.

Pet Industry Trends

Doggy Bakeries are the New Starbucks for Pets

Doggy bakeries are the new, up and coming trend in the pet industry. They are referred to as "the star bucks for dogs." And a host of pet owners visit these shops on a daily basis to buy their canine friend a treat.

The key to success in the dog bakery business is to create treats that look similar to human food. It is essential that canine goodies have a tremendous amount of eye-appeal. Many bakeries sell products that look like Oreo cookies, donuts and crescents. Some even sell frozen pet treats such as canine smoothies, ice cream and yogurt cups.

Pet bakeries tend to use human grade ingredients. They frequently take a recipe intended for human consumption and modify it for pets. For example, many pet bakeries replace chocolate with carob, sugar with honey and white flour with barley flour. Since owners are increasingly concerned with canine health and obesity, pet bakeries work hard to create treats that are healthy and low in fat.

As the trend towards pampering pet's increases, we will probably see more and more pet bakeries beginning to open.
