Background of IMAN
IMAN grew out of the concerns of a small group of Muslim community members who came together to respond to the pervasive symptoms of poverty and marginalization on Chicago's southwest side. They formed IMAN in 2005 and incorporated it as a not-for-profit in 1997. A community based organization, IMAN works for social justice, delivers a range of direct services, and cultivates the arts in urban communities.

IMAN's clinic began in 2004 through the vision of a group of physicians who sought to address the glaring lack of healthcare in the community. Initially, the clinic borrowed space from a local physician's office to provide free treatment on alternate Sundays. In 2007, through the help of community partners, the clinic was able to secure its own facility and hire a full-time clinic administrator. The clinic expanded its service to two days/week and has expanded its practice to over twelve hundred patients. The clinic continues to uphold its mission of providing high-quality, comprehensive, accessible, and culturally competent healthcare to its diverse patient population.
Target Population Served
The clinic offers care to a broad cross-section of the Chicago's South-West side's socio-economically disadvantaged population, consisting predominately of African-Americans and Hispanics with a notable Arab immigrant population.
