 United Way Celebrates Volunteerism David Renz (pictured, center) won this year's Connie Woodward Award for Outstanding Volunteerism in Whitfield County. David is a long-time United Way volunteer, having served as Campaign Chair, Volunteer Center Chair, and Fund Distribution Chair. David has been active with the Boys & Girls Club, where he gave over 200 hours in 2010. He is pictured with new United Way Board members: Monica Palacios, Lori McDaniel, Lynn Whitworth, Tim Ausmus, and Shawn Molsberger. Steve Pound (front right) is the new United Way Board Chairman for 2011. In 2010 United Way connected 3,529 volunteers to service, and matched 34,356 individuals to community resources. |

The twelve Shaw Operations Management Trainees (OMT) recently spent two days with the United Way Volunteer Center providing 145 hours of service. Pictured is a wheelchair ramp built by the OMTs.

The Kiwanis-United Way Awards Banquet will be held on Monday, May 2nd, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at the Northwest Georgia Trade and Convention Center.

Rural Food Distribution
Over 40 needy individuals received groceries through a partnership between United Way and the Red Cross on March 5th. Volunteers took USDA food boxes to Tennga Baptist Church where individuals who could not travel to food banks because of transportation costs, could secure food for their families.

Community One-Day Cafe

United Way Americorps member, Helen Costner, who serves at the American Red Cross in Murray County organized the Community One-Day Cafe on Saturday, March 26th. Twenty volunteers prepared and served meals to homebound residents in Murray County; 180 meals were prepared and delivered to those in need.

LIVE UNITED With Nature, hosted by United Way, will be held April 16th from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Volunteers are needed to assemble garden beds, hang bird feeders, build bat houses, plant bushes, and place seeds in garden beds. Register on our website or on Facebook.
