Forensics and Cold Case Investigations
January 18-19, 2010 · Fairfax, VA
January 17, 2010: Pre-Seminar Workshop for Attendees

Dr Lee Forensics and Cold Case Investigations
The advances in forensic sciences, technology, and investigative processes applied to old evidence leads many investigators to solve or close cold case. At this seminar, Dr. Lee and Dr. Bush will share their individual and collective knowledge to help participants further appreciate the power of forensics and its importance in conducting cold case investigations.

Solving or closing cold cases provides a sense of relief to the community and closure to the victim's family. Confidence in the judicial system is reinforced.  In addition, an arrest in one case may yield information about another case. Forensic techniques that did not exist when the crime occurred may be applied to old evidence. New evidence may surface as a result of forensics.

Dr. Henry C. Lee, Chief Emeritus for the Scientific Services and former Commissioner of Public Safety for the State of Connecticut, has served as the State's Chief Criminalist since 1979. He is a Distinguished Professor at the University of New Haven and founder of Henry C. Lee Institute of Forensic Science at the University of New Haven. Dr. Lee's work has made him a landmark in modern-day forensic sciences. He has been a prominent player in many of the most challenging cases of the last 40 years.

Dr. Leah Bush, Chief Medical Examiner Commonwealth of Virginia  is board certified in anatomic pathology, clinical pathology and forensic pathology. Dr. Bush received her BS in biology from Virginia Tech, her MS in biology from Virginia Commonwealth University and her MD from the Medical College of Virginia (MCV). She completed a pathology residency at MCV and a forensic pathology fellowship at the Medical Examiner's Office in Richmond, Virginia.
