Important Information About Diabetes Supplies

Dear Broker/Consultant:
Coventry Health Care is very pleased to announce that we have renewed our contract with Lifescan OneTouch® as the preferred blood glucose meter and test strips for our diabetic members. The new contract will allow us to continue to offer the Lifescan OneTouch meter to our diabetic members at no charge, and the test strips will be covered under the Pharmacy Preferred Drug (Tier 2) copayment. Effective November 15, 2008, all non-Lifescan OneTouch blood glucose test strips will require prior authorization.
In the next week, this letter will be mailed to Benefit Administrators of fully insured clients that have members which will be impacted by this change in prior authorization. In addition, a member specific letterwill be mailed to our diabetic members that are using a non-preferred blood glucose meter and test strips to notify them of the new prior authorization requirement. We will make them aware of the opportunity to receive a Lifescan OneTouch blood glucose meter at no charge.
