New Name...Same Great Mission!
The Wellness Community Valley/Ventura, will officially change its name to the Cancer Support Community Valley/Ventura/Santa Barbara in June. We remain a locally governed and funded 501 c 3 nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action, and supported by community. All monies raised in the community, stay in the community.
The name change to:
Cancer Support Community Valley/Ventura/Santa Barbara
is a reflection of the merger at the national level of The Wellness Community and Gilda's Club to become the largest professionally-led network of cancer support worldwide.
Our dedicated team will continue to offer the very same services and programs at NO charge to the participant--only the name will change! Our goal is to help as many cancer patients as possible recover from the physical and emotional effects of cancer to the greatest extent possible. Our psychological support and educational programs are designed to address the loss of control, hopelessness and social isolation that cancer patients and their families often experience.

Moving from Stress to Wisdom with John Horton, MD
Date: Tuesday, June 12th
Time: 6:30-8:00 pm
Location: The Wellness Community, 530 Hampshire Road, Westlake Village, CA 91361

This presentation informs participants how the stress system, when activated over a long period of time, inhibits healing of any sort of illness including cancer. Human beings have another system that some of us are now calling the "Wisdom System." This system supports health, well-being, healing and allows for a rich inner life even when the outer aspects of our life are challenging. The key to moving from stress to wisdom is through gaining an understanding of the nature of reflection. In the presentation you will learn tools that allow for reflection.
Dr. Horton has been in general practice for 40 years and graduated from the Duke School of Medicine with honors. Dr. Horton has been a hospice medical director and has taught at USC School of Medicine as well as in Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and India.
