Evening of Hope
An Evening of Hope
presented by
Dole

On May 4th, The Wellness Community Valley/Ventura celebrated more than 20 years of providing free programs of support, education and hope for adults and children affected by cancer.  The "Evening of Hope" Gala was an inspirational event and a tremendous success, thanks to the dedication and selfless efforts of this year's event contributors.  This year's Gala had a record breaking, sell-out crowd of 400 attendees!

To see photos from the evening, check out our facebook page. Thank you to Hector Perez of Focused on the Details and Society Social Calendar for capturing the evening's memorable moments.

Thank you to The Acorn and Ventura County Star for their coverage of the evening.

Go to our website or click on the Shop to Support logo and see all the wonderful offerings.

Shop to Support

The Shop to Support Program is a "win" for everyone. You make a difference by doing what you already do-buying goods and services from your local merchants. Community minded merchants get your business...and in return they provide The Wellness Community with sustained funding!

Anthem Blue Cross chooses TwcVv for  "Building Healthy Communities,
Anthem Blue Cross Community Service Day"
Wellpoint Community Service Day

Since its inception in 2008, thousands of associates and their families and friends have participated in Anthem Blue Cross' annual Community Service Day (CSD), helping nonprofit partners across the country.

On April 28th, a group of volunteers from Anthem Blue Cross helped "spruce up" TwcVv by planting 72 rose bushes along the driveway as well as refreshing one of the group rooms with a new coat of paint.  We've received so many compliments from the participants, volunteers and staff on our beautifully landscaped driveway and how warm and inviting the freshly painted room feels!

Thank You, Anthem Blue Cross!

John Barry

John Barry really loved to play soccer. And his wife, Sandy, knew it. She frequently spoke of John's passion in The Wellness Community's Transition Group on Thursday nights. In honor of that spirit, a tournament was held on Sunday, April 22nd to commemorate the 2nd anniversary of John's passing. Over $2,000 was raised and donated to TwcVv. Thank you to John and Sandy Barry...and your many, many soccer loving friends!

In addition to the Summit, the Cancer Support Community in cooperation with the the House Cancer Caucus, hosted a luncheon briefing in Washington DC on May 8th entitled " Meeting the Needs of the Whole Patient in Cancer Care."

New Name...Same Great Mission!
Cancer Support Community Valley/Ventura/Santa Barbara
The Wellness Community Valley/Ventura, will officially change its name to the Cancer Support Community Valley/Ventura/Santa Barbara in June. We  remain a locally governed and funded 501 c 3 nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action, and supported by community. All monies raised in the community, stay in the community.

The name change to:

Cancer Support Community Valley/Ventura/Santa Barbara

is a reflection of the merger at the national level of The Wellness Community and Gilda's Club to become the largest professionally-led network of cancer support worldwide.

Our dedicated team will continue to offer the very same services and programs at NO charge to the participant--only the name will change!  Our goal is to help as many cancer patients as possible recover from the physical and emotional effects of cancer to the greatest extent possible. Our psychological support and educational programs are designed to address the loss of control, hopelessness and social isolation that cancer patients and their families often experience.
