Merv's Comedy Night

ABC's of Cancer and Radiation Therapy
with Sumita Bhatia, MD Date: Tuesday, January 10th Time: 6:30-8:00 pm Location: The Wellness Community, 530 Hampshire Road, Westlake Village, CA 91361
This workshop will provide an overview of radiation treatment for all types o f cancer. Dr. Bhatia will discuss what radiation is, length of treatments, effectiveness, how radiation works with surgery and chemotherapy, tips for managing toxicities and common side effects and effective tools for decreasing any anxiety that may occur during treatment.
Dr. Bhatia joined Vantage Oncology and Valley Radiotherapy Associates (VRA) as the first female radiation oncologist to treat patients in the West Hills/Woodland Hills area. She earned her medical degree at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and completed her Radiation Oncology residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, where she served as Chief Resident.

Riding the Cancer Wave: Spiritually Speaking
with Michael Eselun

Cancer not only invades the physical body, but it can invade our spirit, our soul, our very identities, and the relationships that keep us connected to life or even to our sense of higher power. But cancer can also lead us into deep spiritual growth and discovery. Michael explores the qualities he's observed that help people effected by cancer and their loved ones ride the cancer wave with greater ease.
Michael Eselun is a Certified Associate Chaplain, serves as the chaplain for the Simms/Mann-UCLA Center for Integrative Oncology, providing inter-faith spiritual support to those affected by cancer. He has extensive background in hospice and palliative care and is a frequent guest speaker about his work.

Girls' Night Out *Fundraiser*

Location: Cisco's Mexican Restaurant, 925 South Westlake Boulevard, Westlake Village
For one night only, gentlemen from Meathead Movers will replace uniforms with tuxedoes, and moving boxes with trays, all to benefit The Wellness Community Valley/Ventura. Meathead Movers in conjunction with Cisco's Mexican Restaurant will host Girls' Night Out on Monday, January 23rd from 5:3 0 - 8:30 pm. The event will feature hors d'oeuvres, a no host bar, and exciting auctions, with Meatheads serving up all the food and fun.

Eat to Beat Cancer
with Susan Speer, MS, RD, CSO, FADA

Can I eat soy? Should I go organic? Get ready to learn what foods you should eat or avoid helping strengthen the fight against canc er. Registered Dietician and health coach Susan Speer will share the latest nutrition research findings about which foods to eat to beat cancer. Whether going through surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, or post treatment, Susan will have the right answers for all dietary needs.
Susan Speer is a registered dietitian with a master's degree in nutrition. She is the Oncology Nutrition Specialist at the Cancer Center of Ventura County.
