Led by Breakaway Champion, Reine Wiley, and Grey's Anatomy, Patrick Dempsey, over 150 cancer survivors and caregivers participated in the Breakaway Mile held on May 22nd.

Advances In Prostate MRI, Detection And Staging with Robert Princenthal, MD Over the past year, Dr. Princenthal and Rolling Oaks Radiology have been involved in Prostate imaging utilizing an ultra-high field 3T MRI and a sophisticated multi-parameter approach. In this talk, Dr. Princenthal will be addressing a number of critical issues in prostate cancer screening, detection and staging: How do we perform Prostate MRI? Who should get a Prostate MRI? Progress in the Management of Lung Cancer with Edward Garon, MD Join us for a discussion on the advances in the field of lung cancer. Topics will include new treatments and clinical trials, how patients are selected for various trials and therapies, and management of side effects. Dr. Edward Garon is a physician and researcher at the University of California, Los Angeles with a focus in the area of lung cancer. Also, on July 5th, TWCVV will open a new lung cancer support group. The group will meet on the first and third Tuesday of each month and be facilitated by Peggy Johnston, MFT.

Drum Circle for Children and Families Join us for a fun-filled, music-making program designed especially for kids with cancer, and children who have a family member with cancer, family members and friends are welcome as well. Drum circle facilitator Brad Anderson will provide a unique opportunity to create music in the moment using hand drums and percussion instruments. No prior experience is necessary and instruments will be provided. Space is limited. This activity is supported by an educational donation provided by Amgen, The RED Family Fund administered by the Ventura County Community Foundation & the Harriet H. Samuelsson Foundation.

The Cancer Survivors' Day Family Picnic on June 4 was a huge success. Over 600 people attended the celebration.

The Wellness Community Valley/Ventura participated in Children's Hospital's 20th Annual event honoring Children's Hospitals Childhood Cancer Survivors & their families on Sunday, June 5th at Paramount Studios.

In honor of our 20th Anniversary and to complement our new landscaping of the Garden of Hope, a number of designers in our community have gotten together to provide a "facelift" for the interior of the building, so that people coming to take part in our various programs will feel even more welcome. Reiki Healing and Natural Wellness Reiki is a Japanese tradition of laying of hands that can reduce stress, improve relaxation and therefore, promote healing.
