    Our Cancer Survivors Day event will give you the opportunity to celebrate your survivorship with others. Join us for good food (donated and prepared by the Kiwanis Club of Thousand Oaks) and many fun activities, including a clown and live music. Bring your favorite pictures to participate in the scrapbooking wall!

    This workshop will focus on achieving spiritual wellness to help with the emotional effects of cancer. Reverend Curtis R. Hotchkiss is Director of Spiritual Care at Community Memorial Hospital. Ordained in 1990, Rev. Hotchkiss holds a master's degree in theology. He has previously served as minister at New Life Ministries Church in Oxnard, staff Chaplain at St. John's Regional Medical Center, and has maintained a volunteer ministry at the Ventura County Rescue Mission for over 20 years. Leanne has performed standup comedy in clubs across the country, as well as overseas for the USO in Japan and Korea. She was named Funniest Person in Orange County by the Irvine Improv and is a successful comedic actress.

    Dr. Bracho will answer questions and present a discussion of the basics of childhood leukemia, risks for contraction, signs and symptoms, and treatment of the disease.

    Dr. Bracho is Director of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at the Ventura County Medical Center, Satellite Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases. He is also a Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. Presented by The Wellness Community, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Ventura County Health Care Agency and the CMH Cancer Resource Center. Light dinner and childcare provided.

Molly Rockey is an ordained minister and the Spiritual Leader of Unity of the Oaks church in Thousand Oaks. She has been the caregiver for her husband Ed Rockey, a two-time cancer survivor.

    This weekly group will use various forms of art media to explore feelings and issues related to the experience of cancer. No artistic experience or skill is required. Group facilitator Becky DeRaad, M.A., is a Marriage and Family Intern and Registered Art Therapist.

    Relaxation & Guided Imagery
    First three Mondays of the month beginning June 14, 10:30am -11:30am

    We plan to offer an additional Guided Imagery class beginning June 14 if there is sufficient interest. Facilitator Marilyn Stolzman has been in private practice over 25 years. She is a Marriage and Family Practice Therapist, Certified Clinical Hypnotist and taught Creative Visualization to people with cancer at Tarzana Hospital.

    Learn to take an active role in your healing process using imagery and relaxation techniques. Benefits may include reduced anxiety, enhanced immune system, more effective management of surgery and treatment side effects. Paula Getty-Shearer is a Certified Hypnotherapist and has been leading this program in Westlake Village for three years.
