And coming up in March... Aggressive cancer therapy can have a powerful effect on normal cells, as well as cancer cells. The mouth is especially prone to damage from cancer treatments. Flora Stay, DDS will discuss the importance of oral health for cancer patients, management of side effects, and prevention of painful oral complications during cancer treatment. Dr. Stay earned her Doctor of Dentistry degree from UC San Francisco. Thursday, April 15, 6:30 - 8:00 pm Celebrity hairstylist and Feng Shui Beauty Master Billy Yamaguchi utilizes the five elements of Feng Shui to identify each client's personal energy element. Billy has developed cutting, coloring, and massage techniques for each of the five elements. Billy will show how to apply this energy philosophy and learn how to improve your confidence, make choices that match your energy element, and find better balance in your life. Learn beauty tips for minimizing hair loss including eyebrows and lashes. Billy Yamaguchi was the first to adapt Feng Shui techniques to the beauty industry. Mondays from 6:30 to 8:30 pm Based on best-selling author Jon Kabat-Zinn's program at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center and described in his book Full Catastrophe Living, the experiential course combines meditation, gentle yoga, readings and group discussion. Many people with cancer credit the course with changing their lives. Offered elsewhere for $1,000, the course is free to people faced with cancer and their loved ones. Instructor Catherine Baum has studied with Dr. Kabat-Zinn and teaches the Stress Reduction Program at a variety of Ventura County Locations. Join us for a delightful evening of storytelling when invited guests John and Elly Schneider bring these fanciful stories to life. John Schneider has been in the public eye consistently for the past 30 years, beginning with his role as Bo Duke on the hit television show "The Dukes of Hazzard." He has since starred in many film and television roles. John and his wife Elly have supported TWCVV by graciously opening their home for two Holiday Homes Tours and leading a Kids Circle Sing-Along in 2009. With Robert Hoffman, MD Dr. Hoffman will discuss the integrative medicine approach to cancer care. Integrative Medicine combines mainstream medical therapies and complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) therapies for which there is some high-quality scientific evidence of safety and effectiveness. This workshop will also address key concepts of psychoneuroimmunology (PNI). Also described as the mind - body connection, PNI is the study of the interaction between psychological processes and the nervous and immune systems of the human body. Dr. Hoffman is board certified in psychiatry and forensic medicine. He has been on the faculty at UCLA for 30 years, has written in numerous books and journals, and has lectured across the United States and abroad. Dr. Hoffman is in private practice in psychiatry and integrative medicine with offices in Woodland Hills and Ventura.

We're available in the middle of the night; sometimes providing intimate care we don't feel trained or qualified for. In the midst of caring for someone with a life-threatening illness, we sometimes forget to take care of ourselves. Learn about the five important ways we can keep ourselves healthy and in balance, and in doing so take better care of our loved ones. Molly Rockey is an ordained minister and the Spiritual Leader of Unity of the Oaks church in Thousand Oaks. As Patient Services Director of The ALS Association, Greater LA Chapter she created inspirational programs for caregivers, patients and healthcare professionals. She has been the caregiver for her husband Ed Rockey who is a two-time cancer survivor. Molly will share the tools that helped her in the most difficult of times.
