  • Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction in Simi Valley

    Eight-week course, Thursdays, June 4 through July 23, 6:30-8:30pm
    Simi Valley Hospital
    2975 North Sycamore Drive, Simi Valley
    An all-day class will be held Tuesday, July 14.

    Based on best-selling author Jon Kabat-Zinn's program at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, the course combines meditation, gentle yoga, readings and group discussion. Offered elsewhere for $1,000, the course is free to people with cancer and their loved ones.

    Please call 805-379-4777 to register and to confirm classroom location within the hospital. This program provided in partnership with Simi Valley Hospital and funded by the City of Simi Valley.

    The sale is co-sponsored by The Oaks Shopping Center and all proceeds will benefit The Wellness Community Valley/Ventura's FREE programs of support, education and hope for people with cancer and their families.

    If you would like to volunteer at the Book Sale, please email twc.info@wellnesscommunityhope.org. We need about 20 volunteers this weekend. There are three shifts to choose from each day. You are welcome to volunteer for more than one shift.

    Marc Botnick, MD, Medical Director of the Sherman Oaks Radiation Therapy Center, will speak about prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment options.

    Comedy Night: Laughter IS the Best Medicine!

    Barry "King of the One-Liners" Weisenberg has been doing standup comedy since 1991 and won the Las Vegas Comedy Festival in 2006.

    This is an ongoing series of comedy nights made possible by the funds raised at the Stand Up for Cancer Survivors fundraiser held in 2008.

    Sculpting Class

    Hands On: Sculpting Class with John Storojev
    Fridays, June 12-26, 1-3pm

    Artist/educator, Storojev founded the California Sculpture Academy to open the world of sculpture to everyone, regardless of experience or talent. Whether you are "green" or experienced in creating art, this three-session class will teach you to sculpt with clay like an expert! All materials will be provided. Class is limited to 8 participants.

    Report of the 31st Annual San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium with Susie Jun, MD

    Susie Jun, M.D. will discuss state-of-the art findings of international leaders in the field of breast cancer research, detection, and treatment as presented at the December 2008 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium. Dr. Jun is a Clinical Research Medical Director at Amgen in Thousand Oaks.
