Friday, March 13, 1-3 pm How is the experience of breast cancer different for a woman in her twenties, thirties, or forties? How does breast cancer impact the important issues of the first half of adulthood including dating, intimate relationships, career, and raising children? Jodi McIntosh, TWC Associate Program Director, will facilitate an interactive discussion about the unique emotional challenges faced by young women with breast cancer. Jodi, pictured above, is a licensed marriage and family therapist, clinical supervisor at the Mitchell Family Counseling Clinic in Northridge, and part-time faculty in the Department of Educational Psychology and Counseling at California State University, Northridge. Sunday, March 15, 2-4 pm You and your family are invited to a magical afternoon! Daniel's Day of Magic was created by the Board of Directors as a tribute to former Board Chair Daniel Jacoby's fun-loving spirit and love of magic. Back by popular demand, professional magician Greg Wilson will present his "Allakazam" magic show. Greg, pictured, is the son of magician Mark Wilson, star of the children's television show "The Magic Land of Allakazam." Refreshments will be provided. Seating is limited. Friday, March 20, 1-3 pm Don't re-decorate, re-DESIGN! Create a healing space for yourself or someone you care about using the simple, inexpensive "use what you have" design techniques offered by the mavens of "Interior Redesign" - Marcia Smart and Barbara Hiatt. Marcia and Barbara are members of the Interior Redesign Industry Specialists (I.R.I.S.) and coordinators for Havens for Healing, a community outreach initiative dedicated to the creation of healing environments for people undergoing treatment for cancer. Marcia Smart, pictured, is the author of "Decorating by Instinct" and has been featured on the HGTV program "Decorating Cents," in Entrepreneur Start-Ups, and in Decorating Spaces Magazine. Thursday, March 26, 6:30-8:30pm Cancer treatments can wreak havoc on your skin and complicate your daily makeup routine. Using your own cosmetics, learn new and simpler make-up techniques to enhance your natural beauty! Learn the secrets of professional make-up artists in applying foundation, blush, eyebrows and more! Come to class with a clean, moisturized face. Cosmetics will not be provided, so be sure to bring any products you already have and currently use, or would like to learn how to use. Roberta Sandor, pictured, is an accomplished makeup artist with over 20 years experience in the beauty industry. Roberta has gained valuable experience working as an elite artist for top cosmetic companies such as Givenchy, Elizabeth Arden, and Yves St. Laurent. Oral health has a direct connection with cancer in a few ways. Often, cancer treatment with chemotherapy or radiation therapy may result in devastating effects on the mouth, which can affect the whole body. A few important measures can prevent the negative results. Dr. Stay will also help inform you on toxic ingredients in your personal care and cosmetic products you may be exposing your body to, that may not be helping your cancer recovery. Dr. Flora Stay, pictured, earned the degree of doctor of dental surgery from the University of California, San Francisco. She is currently an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Southern California School of Dentistry, in the Department of Diagnostic Sciences. Dr. Stay is the author of Secret Gateway to Health, Complete Book of Dental Remedies, and The Fibromyalgia Dental Handbook.
