Village Shalom Therapy Visits NASCAR
Overland Park, KS

There are countless ways to provide senior adults with rehabilitation therapy after surgery or an injury, but such modalities don't usually involve a trip to the racetrack. Village Shalom's Wang Rehabilitation Center recently devised a way for several short-term-stay residents to combine a treatment session and an outing to the NASCAR qualifying trials at the Kansas Speedway.

More than simply a day at the races, it was an opportunity to experience physical and mental activity that incorporates real-life activity, with an added element of fun.

"We're really big on thinking outside the box," explained Jessica Williams, Village Shalom's therapy coordinator. "We want to get our patients outside the four walls (of the rehab center) and have them do more than just kick their legs 20 times. While that is important to help them build strength, we want to do more than that."

Groundbreaking in the Bronx
Bronx, New York

Through the New York State Department of Health,  Jewish Home Lifecare received a HEAL grant for the new building,
which affords the not-for-profit an opportunity to provide an additional level of care for low income Bronx elders in need of safe, affordable and supportive housing. It also expands the Bronx Division's spectrum of care that includes independent senior housing, rehabilitation, post acute services and long-term care on one connected campus.

Audrey Weiner, President and CEO of Jewish Home Lifecare, said, "This  major grant from the State of New York will materially strengthen the geriatric care infrastructure of The Bronx at a time of heightened need for our elderly population."

Keith Myers Appointed to the Florida Board of Nursing Home Administrators
Tallahassee, FL

Keith A. Myers, President and CEO of MorseLife, Inc., has been appointed as a Chairman for the Florida Board of Nursing Home Administrators, effective through October of 2014.  His appointment was announced in September by Governor Rick Scott.

Terri C. Sriberg, Chairman of MorseLife, notes that the appointment of Myers to this leadership position reflects his experience and commitment to ensuring the best possible outcomes for nursing home residents.  "Under his able leadership, MorseLife is today a recognized center of excellence in senior care, ranking among the best in the industry, with a solid reputation as an organization that keeps the needs of seniors at the forefront." she said.  "I am certain that in these challenging times, Keith's expertise in the field will be quite valuable to the Board and to the state's many nursing home administrators - he effectively represents a model of excellence for others to follow."
