Pen Pal Project Brings Generations Together
In this age of emails, texting and Facebook, it is reassuring to know that the time-honored practice of handwriting letters is not lost. In fact, a recent pen pal project pairing fifth-graders from Blue Valley School District's Mission Trail Elementary School and residents of Village Shalom, a continuing-care retirement community in Overland Park, did more than revive the art of correspondence; it fostered some new intergenerational relationships. IDF Visits The Jewish Home
Every year the Jewish Community Center, Stamford, hosts members of the Israel Defense Force (IDF) to build bridges between Americans and Israelis, to learn about each other person-to-person while building lasting relationships and a profound sense of extended family. A visit to The Jewish Home, Fairfield, is always part of the busy itinerary.
When the officers came to the Home on 5/10/11, residents listened attentively to their presentations and enthusiastically showed support. The residents remember when Israel first became a state and found great meaning in personally thanking the officers, and everyone they represent, for their dedicated service to protect the dream that came
true.
