Book Links
I'd like to introduce you to a sweet new series of picture books perfect for the preschool set. Polly Dunbar's Tilly and Friends Books feature a little girl named Tilly who lives with her animal friends in a small yellow house. Join Tilly, Tiptoe, Hector, Doodle, Pru, and Tumpty for funny friendship adventures that revolve around real 3-year-old issues of biting, borrowing, hiding, sharing, cooperation, and bedtime. They're so cute, you can't read just one!
Web Links Wouldn't it be great if there was one place to find out about upcoming educational programs for parents and educators on the North Shore? Well, there is! The Parent Education Consortium (PEC) Calendar is a centralized source of information on parent resources and programs organized by date, topic, and location. One sponsoring organization, the Family Awareness Network (FAN), recently hosted Vivian Gussin Paley, early childhood specialist and author of You Can't Say You Can't Play based on her observations of young children. You can listen to Vivian's presentation on the FAN website and learn more about the upcoming presentation on the need for social connection by neuroscientist John Cacioppo. FAN programs are always free and open to the public, and CPDUs are offered to educators.

Holly's Helpful Hints

Did you know that April is National Autism Awareness Month? With Autism affecting 1 in 150 American children today, here are three ways in which you can raise awareness in your classroom: Learn the signs. Act early. View the CDC website to familiarize yourself with developmental milestones and facts about Autism. Read stories about children with autism to your students. Make Boardmaker picture schedules and labels for your classroom. (Boardmaker software is available on the Library's adapted computer, and I would be happy to show you how to use it!)
Yours truly... Holly Jin Preschool Services Coordinator | |
