Cass Tech HS:  Truly Inspirational
A letter from one of our own, Amil Gargano (CT'51).

Cass Tech High School Alumni Association:

I have long held the belief that the education I received from Cass Tech, was the most complete and fulfilling in my many years of art education - including post graduate study.
In a 581 page book I have just completed about my former advertising agency, Ally & Gargano, which will be published later this year, I felt the need to express my deep appreciation for those formative years. This is an excerpt:

"1948

Cass Tech High School was comparable academically to The High School of Music and Art in New York.

Before being accepted there, my most difficult decision was what would be my major. With six years of training in both music and art, I was torn as to which one to make my career. My mother broke the deadlock. She said, 'Art is safer than music.'

How she arrived at that conclusion and without explanation didn't much matter. I just figured she was right because she usually was. So I accepted my serious decision to make art a career while longingly looking over my shoulder at the prospect of partaking in the beautiful world of music as a permanent amateur.

Cass Tech gave me all the art education I would ever need. Cumulatively, the school far surpassed what I later learned from Wayne University, the Society of Arts and Crafts, Meinzenger Art School and, after my service in the Korean War, Cranbrook Academy of Art, a post graduate school in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

Cass Tech was truly inspirational."
