From the Chairman of the Board

CHAIRMAN'S REPORT

As a follow-up to several concerns with regard to the athletic program at Cass Tech and with the help of  board member Ed Tomlin, we  instituted two meetings with parents, CTAA members, CTAA alumni and principal Lenora Ashford and her administrative designee for athletics.

At these two meetings, a vigorous discussion was held with regard to the concerns that have been manifested by parents and staff.  Much of the time at the meetings was spent on defining the definition of a successful program.  A subcommittee was formed to research Michigan State rules for high school athletics and to review the Cass Tech staffs recently developed guidelines for our athletic program.  Mr. Ed Tomlin will further elucidate on these developments at our Board of Directors meeting. We also are suggesting a presentation to the parents by the committee at the Cass Association meeting.

On another issue or potential entertainment, I am working to have a performance at Cass Tech of  Let My People Go,a choral work with four soloists, two actors, and two African drummers, along with an 80 member chorus.  If I am successful, this work will be performed at Cass Tech on March 1, 2008.

On a personal note, I recently had a seriously restricted heart artery repaired with a stint.  The procedure is very easy to undergo and  I was only in the hospital for one day. Those of you who think you might have a heart condition, should consult a cardiac physician to be directed to the evaluation process, which will then indicate if further action is necessary.

I'm sorry to report that this stint installation will not curb my usual verbose approach to life.

Cass Technically Yours,
