The Art of Love

Of the many monumental events of 1966 were the cultural revolution in China, Hollywood's adaptation of the age-based rating system, Xerox selling the Telecopier (fax machine), and of course the Detroit Lions were a much better team; They won four games.

But for two Detroit teenagers a different event was much more monumental. Why? Because, 1966 was the year Ron Gianola met and fell in love with his future wife, Pamela Yee, despite the bustle of students within the halls of Cass Tech. Both graduated in 1966 but would not marry until 1986, a score later. They spent those twenty years working on their careers and growing their love for each other.

After graduating Cass, Ron attended the Art School of the Detroit Society of Arts and Crafts, later known as Center for Creative Studies, during its legendary early period, studying Industrial Design, Drawing, and Painting, and worked throughout the state of Michigan as an artist and designer.

Ron has had 14 one-man exhibits and been in 70 group shows, including many juried shows at the Traverse Area Arts Council where he has won several awards. A portion of Ron's art may be viewed at: www.coslink.net/personal/rgianola

Pam Yee is President of ISABA (International Society of Altered Book Artists), an online non-profit organization whose mission is to promote altered books as an art form via education. An altered book is any book, old or new, that has been recycled by creative means into a work of art. They can be ... rebound, painted, cut, burned, folded, added to, collaged in, gold-leafed, rubber stamped, drilled or otherwise adorned ... and yes! it is legal! Contact www.alteredbookartists.com

Ron and Pam live near Traverse City, MI. There they've hosted a Cass Tech all-years-reunion, in which alumni from 1937-1973 attended. And they believe it may be time for another one. Anyone living near the Traverse City area or interested in attending may email them at mie-nai@coslink.net. Now that they have scored their love, twice, Ron and Pam plan to spend the next twenty years underscoring it.

Just think; you could be outstretched on a sunny beach, tropical breeze blowing into your face, in hand, you have your favorite drink with a small umbrella, while at the same time helping needy Cass students.

Besides saving money, the best thing about the CTAA travel agency is you don't have to be a Technician or an alumni member to use it.

Anyone can book on CTAA Travel.

So the more people you tell about CTAA travel, the more we can help needy students, provide scholarships and support various curriculums at Cass Tech.

A special thank you goes out to Irozenell Pruitt.  She volunteered to be the CTAA travel coordinator.

THE NEED FOR GOOD DEEDS

CTAA previously designated a seat on its board for a board member who agreed to head up efforts to provide support to financially needy Cass Tech students.  The particular board member would collaborate with the counselors at the school in identifying needy students. Plans were then developed to provide financial assistance to as many of these students as possible. Often the form of the assistance was to take students shopping for necessities such as a winter coat. Sometimes the assistance took the form of bus tickets.

CTAA is now in need a board member who will step forward and volunteer to provide leadership for CTAA's efforts to identify and help needy students. This person will need to help recruit and head-up a CTAA committee that will solicit and review applications and requests for assistance. If you are that board member please contact CTAA at news@casstechalumni.org.

THE GREEN SPOTLIGHT

Richard Luke graduated in 1952.  He worked every
day after school at Sams Incorporated where he
continued after graduation as an Hard Line Illustrator.  From there he lent his skills to the Chrysler Missile Operations and later to Aerospace Corporation in L.A.

Richard provided management presentations that
supported missile launchings, special presentations
to the President, Joint Chiefs of Staff and Werner Von Braun the famous missile scientist.  Eventually, the Cass entrepreneurial spirit took over and Richard opened his own Advertising Agency.

Richard now lives in Palm Springs, CA, where he works as a Marketing Agent and Theatrical Agent, assisting in producing cabaret shows.

ENTECHPRENEURIAL ADVICE

PHISHERS OF MEN AND WOMEN

If you have an e-mail account, chances are you have already been subject to a phishing attack.

Phishing (sometimes called spoofing) is an attempt to get you to reveal private information about yourself (usually your Social Security number or financial information) by sending you an official looking e-mail.

Phishers usually tell you the sender must " confirm" your identity or "verify" your account information, and then ask you to e-mail this information back to them. Some phishers are getting even more sophisticated; one trick is to claim that you missed jury duty, then threaten that you will be arrested if you do not send certain requested information to clear up the matter.

Because phishers rely on the cooperation of their victims, it is easy to protect yourself. Legitimate companies never ask for information by e-mail. Be very suspicious if you receive such a request. If you want to find out if the request is a legitimate one, do not respond to the email or follow any computer links it contains (some phishers go to the trouble of creating fake websites).  Instead, pick up the phone and call the company that supposedly sent the e-mail. If the company does need to contact you, it should be able to help you over the phone.
