HISTORIC CASS TECH BUILDING TAKES NEXT STEP TO REDEVELOPMENT

On the heels of a successful presentation at University of Detroit Mercy School of Architecture this fall to a group of nearly fifty CT Alumni and friends, the PROACT Committee and CT Redevelopment Society are looking forward to some big announcements in 2007. And after working closely with Detroit Public Schools over the last year and a half, they're nearly ready to announce their official request for proposals in late winter.

Historic Cass Tech has been without day to day activity for over a year now and is being used sporadically by DPS as a central storage facility. It is boarded up completely on the first and second floors and is now awaiting its next incarnation as a mixed-use anchor for the Cass Park Historic District. Please look for the PROACT committee at the upcoming Pancake Breakfast where they will be on hand to relay the latest information.

Feel free to contact them should you have any questions or concerns. Francis Grunow 1992: detourdetroit@ameritech.net.
The CTAA has teamed up with the Home Loan Benefit Program, powered by Rock Financial, to provide you with an exciting new benefit.

Check out other benefits here: or call 1-800-453-6728 to get started.

Elections for the Cass Tech Alumni Association Board of Directors are scheduled for CTAA's Pancake Breakfast and Annual Meeting in February, 2007.

The Board is made up of 25 CT Alumni that meet quarterly to oversee the operations of this not-for-profit organization, which is dedicated to serving the needs of Cass Tech Alumni and students.

We need quality CT Alumni who are willing to either serve on the committee that will nominate candidates for the board, or willing to be candidates for the board themselves.

The Nominating Committee, chaired by Blaine Denning, will meet at the new Cass Tech Building probably only once to review and discuss all of the applications. Once the committee has done so, it will prepare a recommended slate of candidates that will then be presented to the entire membership for consideration. Alumni not recommended by the committee will still be eligible to seek election.

Anyone willing to participate or for more information CLICK HERE to obtain a Board Elections and Nominations Package.
Jan (Sikov) Jacobson (1970) is the host and producer of a weekly public affairs show that airs on five radio stations in Phoenix, Arizona.

Her show is an hour long public affair show covering issues and topics of interest to the community, including coverage of non-profit organizations and their events, health care, education, finance, public issues, i.e., alcoholism, drug abuse by kids, caring for the elderly and the future for baby boomers, etc. It airs on KSLX, KDKB, KUPD, KDUS and Az Gold in Phoenix market.
Those who have graduated from Cass and who are now business owners deserve double honors. Achieving the above and being a lifetime member of CTAA affords them triple honors. Therefore, in each issue we will write a short article, saluting these Entechpreneurs.

If you are a Technician and a business owner don't delay. Join CTAA as a lifetime member, then inform us of your business and we will write an article about you and your business. You may soon have thousands of Technicians laying siege at your door to conduct business with you.

HOW TO GET OVER HIM AND LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES

Denician Angeleia (1996), has written a survival guide that helps women avoid the wrong men and heal from unhealthy relationships.

"Young women are ruining their lives because of the men they pick. Teenage girls are disillusioned into believing they have to show lots of skin to get a boyfriend, and having sex and babies out of wedlock will bring them love. Women who stay in violent relationships end up murdered. Others daydream about perfect weddings and ignore all the warning signs in their abusive partners," says Denician.

"Some women’s problems run deeper than choosing the wrong men. Many women have low self-esteem. They feel they have to accept whatever type of man comes their way." But that doesn’t have to be the case. As a survivor of a seven-year abusive relationship, Denician Angeleia authored, How to Get Over Him and Learn from Your Mistakes.

Denician delves into the meat of the problem - picking the wrong men. If you don’t already have a copy, you need to read this for yourself. Although Denician holds a feministic stance, she inspires you to have confidence, virtue, and self respect; emphasizing the importance of trusting in your instincts and following your gut feelings.

Denician, a Detroit native and mother of two currently resides in Southern California. Having many awards and prestigious affiliations, she is an alumnus of Cass Tech, the Journalism Institute for Minorities, Public Benefit’s SCOOP Program, and Wayne State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Radio and TV.

Cass Tech Alumni Association (CTAA) strives to provide a quality and excellent newsletter to its readers. The stories and anecdotes sent in by alumni helps us achieve this goal, for which CTAA is appreciative and requests more.

In striving for excellence CTAA works to provide a newsletter free from grammatical errors. CTAA has attempted to recruit those alumni reporting errors and others as volunteer proofreaders. We have not secured such an alumnus, as of yet. We are also in the process of attempting to work with the Journalism department at Cass Tech. But nothing, thus far, has been solidified.

But CTAA has switched gears and is now looking to hire a professional proofreader. This is where the alumni can help. Though time is precious and in short supply these days, alumni can volunteer financially, instead. Please donate to CTAA so a professional proofreader can be contracted, for a year if possible. Your donation is tax-deductible, as the beginning of a new tax season is upon us.

CTAA thanks those alumni who have already stepped forward and supported our cause, specifically, those who have made sizable donations: Jenean Hampton and Janis Smith. Others have stepped forward, wanting to help. CTAA will communicate with them in the following month.
