Of the many monumental events of 1966 were the cultural revolution in China, Hollywood's adaptation of the age-based rating system, Xerox selling the Telecopier (fax machine), and of course the Detroit Lions were a much better team; They won four games.

But for two Detroit teenagers a different event was much more monumental. Why? Because, 1966 was the year Ron Gianola met and fell in love with his future wife, Pamela Yee, despite the bustle of students within the halls of Cass Tech. Both graduated in 1966 but would not marry until 1986, a score later. They spent those twenty years working on their careers and growing their love for each other.

After graduating Cass, Ron attended the Art School of the Detroit Society of Arts and Crafts, later known as Center for Creative Studies, during its legendary early period, studying Industrial Design, Drawing, and Painting, and worked throughout the state of Michigan as an artist and designer.

Ron has had 14 one-man exhibits and been in 70 group shows, including many juried shows at the Traverse Area Arts Council where he has won several awards. A portion of Ron's art may be viewed at: www.coslink.net/personal/rgianola

Pam Yee is President of ISABA (International Society of Altered Book Artists), an online non-profit organization whose mission is to promote altered books as an art form via education. An altered book is any book, old or new, that has been recycled by creative means into a work of art. They can be ... rebound, painted, cut, burned, folded, added to, collaged in, gold-leafed, rubber stamped, drilled or otherwise adorned ... and yes! it is legal! Contact www.alteredbookartists.com

Ron and Pam live near Traverse City, MI. There they've hosted a Cass Tech all-years-reunion, in which alumni from 1937-1973 attended. And they believe it may be time for another one. Anyone living near the Traverse City area or interested in attending may email them at mie-nai@coslink.net. Now that they have scored their love, twice, Ron and Pam plan to spend the next twenty years underscoring it.
Reach thousands of Cass Tech alumni in Detroit and around the world. Advertise your business, promote your special project or event, or market your book or service.

Elections for the Cass Tech Alumni Association Board of Directors are scheduled for CTAA's Pancake Breakfast and Annual Meeting in February, 2007.

The Board is made up of 25 CT Alumni that meet quarterly to oversee the operations of this not-for-profit organization, which is dedicated to serving the needs of Cass Tech Alumni and students.

We need quality CT Alumni who are willing to either serve on the committee that will nominate candidates for the board, or willing to be candidates for the board themselves.

The Nominating Committee, chaired by Blaine Denning, will meet at the new Cass Tech Building probably only once to review and discuss all of the applications. Once the committee has done so, it will prepare a recommended slate of candidates that will then be presented to the entire membership for consideration. Alumni not recommended by the committee will still be eligible to seek election.

Anyone willing to participate or for more information CLICK HERE to obtain a Board Elections and Nominations Package.
Aisha J. Thomas (1995) is in the spotlight, literally. She and her son, Donovan, will be featured on HGTV's show, My First Place, on December 21st at 4 P.M.

My First Place features people moving into their first home, apartment, etc. They discuss what it took to become a homeowner, i.e. sacrifices. The producers then provide the homeowner with an interior designer and a budget, in Aisha's case that was $3000, to decorate one room. Tune in to see her new home.
Those who have graduated from Cass and who are now business owners deserve double honors. Achieving the above and being a lifetime member of CTAA affords them triple honors. Therefore, in each issue we will write a short article, saluting these Entechpreneurs.

If you are a Technician and a business owner don't delay. Join CTAA as a lifetime member, then inform us of your business and we will write an article about you and your business. You may soon have thousands of Technicians laying siege at your door to conduct business with you.

IT'S ELECTRIC!

Litt Electric Company (LEC), an electrical contracting company located in Detroit, installs electrical wiring and lighting in commercial buildings, institutions and homes. Ray Litt (48) serves as president of the corporation.

LEC (LEC) has contracted and completed several large installations including, but not limited to, the Fox Theater, Millender Center, Cass Tech, and Highland Park high school, and presently Southwestern high school.

Ray’s electrical education began with Cass Tech’s electric curriculum. After Cass, he received a BSEE from the University of Michigan.

Believing in staying active, Ray advises anyone at or near his great age of 76, just that. President emeritus of Rackham Symphony Choir, chairman of Cass Tech Alumni Association and part-time chorus member of the Michigan Opera Theatre are some of the causes and organizations he volunteers his talents to. He is also an avid sailor.

Ray adds, “Give back to your community. And above all, enjoy life. It’s easy to do when you have a wonderful and beautiful wife (Carol Jean).”

WILL YOU RISE TO THE CHALLENGE?

Arise Cass Tech is a new development program designed to help students make wise decisions concerning their college education and future careers.

Arise Cass Tech, a partner with Arise Detroit, is the brainchild of the Founder and Program Director, Stephanie L. Jones (94). Stephanie believes, volunteers giving just two hours of time per school year (one hour per semester) have the ability to make a powerful impact upon the lives of Cass Tech students.

Arise Cass Tech asks people to dedicate one hour prior to May 2007, sharing information with a class or group of students about their profession. Whether they work for a company or operate their own business, they can provide detailed information students will never find in a textbook or learn in a classroom.

With the declining automotive industry, as well the increase in jobs being replaced by computers and being shipped overseas, programs such as Arise Cass Tech are critical to students achieving at an above average level.

If interested in speaking to a group, please reply immediately with contact and profession information. Send details to Program Coordinator, Stephanie L. Jones at stephanieljones@sbcglobal.net. “There is power in your voice and in your choice!”
Cass Tech Alumni Association (CTAA) strives to provide a quality and excellent newsletter to its readers. The stories and anecdotes sent in by alumni helps us achieve this goal, for which CTAA is appreciative and requests more.

In striving for excellence CTAA works to provide a newsletter free from grammatical errors. CTAA has attempted to recruit those alumni reporting errors and others as volunteer proofreaders. We have not secured such an alumnus, as of yet. We are also in the process of attempting to work with the Journalism department at Cass Tech. But nothing, thus far, has been solidified.

But CTAA has switched gears and is now looking to hire a professional proofreader. This is where the alumni can help. Though time is precious and in short supply these days, alumni can volunteer financially, instead. Please donate to CTAA so a professional proofreader can be contracted, for a year if possible. Your donation is tax-deductible, as the end of the tax season is rapidly approaching.

Cass Lion

Did you know the Cass Tech Alumni Association is a 501c(3) organization, a non-profit organization?

With December 31st being the end of the tax period for most Americans, and rapidly approaching, now is the time to donate your tax-deductible contribution.

Why not help needy Cass students by donating to CTAA? It's so easy and only takes a few seconds. All you need to do is CLICK HERE and donate online.

So, if you planned to donate money to Uncle Sam this year by way of paying higher taxes, we'd prefer you donate it to your Uncle Cass, instead.

Thank you for your continued support. We would be Lion if we said we didn't need you.

Remember, there are only two types of people in this world. Those who GRADUATED from Cass Tech.. and those who wanted to!

In the CT Spirit
