Student is Relationship-Starved - Help!

 Naked advice button 33

Hey Naked Readers,

I'm a college freshmen at a community college, and I have really wanted a relationship the past couple of months. This isn't something I vent about to others, and considering my past, I'm almost always the one people come to for good advice. Everywhere you turn, you can here a grandmotherly figure spouting that all it takes is patience to find love. I think that that's a pretty easy thing to tell people when you found love 30 years before, and you can reflect on what you've already experienced during your daily nursing home dialysis. My only real chances of meeting new people are at the beginning of each semester, when I have a slight chance of finding someone I'm interested in on my class roster, and when I perform improv comedy. At improv meetings I basically see the same people everytime, and at performances the girls seem to only pay attention to other guys after the show, no matter how hard I make everyone laugh (I got a standing ovation last show). It makes me wonder if I'm just stuck in the purgatory of relationships and I'm just going to be alone, or if I'm just "the other guys' funny but hideous friend". I'm worried that after being alone for so long, I will get my hopes up too high for the first chick that gives me a second glance (basically what's happening now) and then crack up pretty hard when it doesn't work out. The girl I'm interested in is powerfully hard to get a read on...she's one of those types that has lot's of male friends, and playfully flirts with all of them. Every guy knows and fears the type. I have a hundred things I'm worried about with her; Am I flirting too much? Am I flirting too little? Is she even interested? Is her suggestion that I apply at her work inviting friendship, or something more? Does she mind that I don't smoke or drink like her? Am I even attractive to her? Should I just listen to the ones that have warned me that "Better men than you have tried and failed" and cut my losses, waiting for the next chance to appear when I go to a real school in a year or two?
