HELP ME, HARLAN!
Take the Risk: Live with a Stranger, Gain a Friend

Dear Mr. Harlan,
I am trying to decide between living with a friend whom I would be comfortable with (even though I heard living with her is a nightmare), or taking the risk and living with a total stranger. By staying with my friend I risk not making other friends and ending up wanting to choke her, but if I take my chances with someone else, I may end up with a bitchy, crazy, psychotic roommate. I know that's what college is about, but still. It doesn't help that I'm indecisive. What should I do?
Indecisive
Dear Mr. (or Ms.) Indecisive,
I'll make the decision for you - live with a stranger. If you end up with a bitchy, crazy and psychotic roommate, that's not a big deal - you can hang out in the other room with your familiar friend. Should you live with your friend and she turns out to be bitchy, crazy and psychotic, you'll have nowhere to go. Living with a stranger can mean ending up with two friends. Living with the friend means being trapped with no place to go.
