HELP ME, HARLAN!
Borrowed Hoodie Exposes Layers Of Hostility

Naked advice button 33

Dear Harlan,

How do you deal with a roommate who wears your clothes to avoid washing his? It started around November. We discussed it, and he said that I can borrow his clothes, too. That didn't help with this situation. Everything was OK until the weather turned cold. Yesterday, he wore one of my favorite hoodies. Should I ask the residence-life staff to move him? I'm not sure how to

   handle this.

Worn Down

Dear Worn Down,

You're going to ask for him to be moved because he borrowed your hoodie after you had a conversation a few months ago that made it appear to him that you didn't care if he borrowed your clothes? I assume you've been hiding layers of hostility, but the hoodie made you hit a breaking point. Either way, the hoodie mishap is your fault. It's your fault because you've never been clear with him. You should have told him the truth in November. But you just avoided it. So tell him that you want to be a good roommate (assuming this is true), but sharing clothes makes you too uncomfortable. If he responds, "Does that include sharing underwear?" buy new undies ASAP.
