HELP ME, HARLAN! ACCEPT REJECTION AND LIVE IN A HAPPIER, HEALTHIER AND BETTER LIFE

Dear Harlan, I wanted to thank you for introducing me to the Universal Rejection Truth theory. I think the URT is absolutely correct! Personally, I used to be a very shy girl who was too insecure to believe that people wanted to be friends with me. When grade 11 hit, I started to open up, and people actually began to tell me that I was a hilarious person with a great personality. Now I'm about to start a new chapter in my life, and after a few failed friendships and a terrible romantic relationship, I actually feel more confident than ever to start a new life. Although I find that rather strange, I'm also confident that my failed relationships have given me many life lessons that will help me form better relationships. But one very important thing that I learned is that although I made mistakes and annoyed people in the past, there still were people who wanted to be my friend and people who stuck with me despite all my flaws (corny, I know). I'm ready to take chances, make mistakes and give people permission to love me or hate me. For once, I'm proud to be who I am today and thank you for reminding me how to be a more confident person! Thanks
Comfortable With The Uncomfortable
Dear Comfortable,
For those unfamiliar with the Universal Rejection Truth, it's the undeniable truth that not everyone we want to appreciate, include and desire us will always include and desire us. There are those of us who accept the URT and those of us who run and hide from it (living in rejection denial). Those who run and hide from it end up hating themselves or everyone around them, but those who can accept, embrace and train to face the URT end up living in a world that is far more forgiving. We learn that while not everyone will love us, the best way to respond is to work to love ourselves even more. Accepting, embracing and training to handle the URT can be painful at times, but ultimately, it means living in a happier and healthier world filled with compassion, empathy and profound self-awareness and love
