FRESHMAN GIRL WHO WANT TO STAY CLEAN SHOULDN'T DATE HOT GUY INTO DRUGS
 Dear Harlan,
I'm in my first year of college, and I really like this guy. He's smart, incredibly attractive, nice, really witty and super funny. I've talked to him quite a few times, and I sort of get the impression that he might like me, too. The thing is, he's really into drugs. I've heard people talk about him and doing drugs almost as though it's one of his defining characteristics. I've never done drugs before, and have no interest in starting. Is it bad for me to like someone who does? Should I give up on him just because of this?

Are you high? NO, but if you start dating this guy, you will be. This is a deal-breaker. If you aren't into drugs, DO NOT date this guy. That is, unless sitting around and watching your hot boyfriend do drugs sounds like a good time. And don't fool yourself - eventually you'll join in. I've heard too many stories of girlfriends who'd never touched drugs - that is, until they dated a guy who did them. I even heard of a girlfriend who went from a dorm room to a prison cell after getting arrested while transporting drugs for boyfriend. Honestly, there are plenty of available smart, incredibly attractive, nice, witty and super-funny guys who don't do drugs. This guy just happens to be in your class. If this guy does ask you out, make it clear that you don't date guys who do drugs. Only then can you see what's more important to him - drugs, or you.
