FOCUS ON IRELAND
The USA through Irish eyes
In a reverse kind of news from Ireland, National Responsible, Susan Buckley, tells of her recent visit to the USA.
My October trip to the USA was the trip of a lifetime. I spent time with several Marianist friends, and in the process met many new Marianist friends. After spending a few days sightseeing in Washington DC with Bro Robert Metzger SM, my next stop was the Marianist Community in Eldersburg, Maryland where Fr. Neville O'Donohue is living and working in St. Joseph Catholic Community. I was invited to say a few words at their "Autumn Journey in Marianist Spirituality," series on the topic was Mary. I spoke briefly on my Marianist journey and how Mary is very much part of that journey.
New Jersey was my next stop where I stayed at the home of Joanne and Ray McCracken. Joanne and I are members of the Lay Marianist Online Community - Our Lady of the Round Table (OLRT). Joanne and Chris Suriano took me on a tour of Philadelphia, stopping off first at the Marianist offices in Philadelphia where we joined Pati, Bro. Steve and the rest of the staff for Morning Prayer and breakfast. Brian Reavey took time out from his new job to say hello.

On my last weekend I had the pleasure of attending the Marianist Women's Spirituality Retreat at the Marianist Family Retreat Center, Cape May NJ, led by Joanne and Chris and their friend Patti Jarvis. The theme for the weekend was "Crossroads." Among the 40 women who participated were Marceta Reilly (OLRT) and her friend Mary Ellen who had flown in from Kansas. With four of our community here we had a mini OLRT reunion.
What an amazing experience this trip was, sightseeing in Washington, parish and community life in Eldersburg, my first visit to Cape May, our OLRT mini reunion, and meeting and connecting with so many people through the common bond that is the Marianist Family. |
AROUND THE REGION
PHILIPPINES
Recently I reported that Johneleen Lardera, National Responsible for the Philippines had moved from Davao to Manila. Well, it was true but is no longer. Johneleen has just returned to Davao to take a better job. She shares one of the recent Davao MLC activities below.
Some of the MLC members with Bro. George,SM joined the 5K fun run for a cause called, "TREEbute Run." (right photo) The run started at 5:30 in the morning followed by a great breakfast at the Marianist house. MLC members then attended Sunday Mass with the streetchildren at the Balay Pasilungan with Fr. Pablo,SM presiding. It was a great experience and blessing to all of us.
Love and Prayers, Johneleen Lardera
