Greetings, friends!
In Canada, on October 8th, we'll be celebrating our Thanksgiving holiday - a time to reflect on all the gifts that our loving Creator has given to us. And, we have much to be thankful for.
The following week-end, I will be travelling with my husband, David, to Quebec for the Marianist World Day of Prayer on October 14th. As we unite together across the miles, know that I will carry you all in my heart as we pray together for our Marianist Family, for our Church, and all the many needs of our world.
On October 28th, we are all invited to celebrate as four Marianist Martyrs from Madrid are beatified in Rome. May their heavenly prayers guide us to heroic virtue in our own lives.
Peace to all,
Isabella Moyer, MLC

Up-coming Marianist Online Courses
It often is rewarding to take a broader look at life, including Marianist life.
Day-to-day living is enriched by a deeper picture of "why" and "how."
To
assist you in this process, the North American Center for Marianist Studies
(NACMS) offers the following virtual learning communities (vlc) for the
fall.
- Marianist Charism
*Develop a deeper and broader understanding of how
to live out the Marianist charism, spirituality, and mission in the wider Church
and global community
- Marianist Community
*Enhance your ability to form community in the
Marianist spirit as you learn about the roots, expression, and unique
characteristics of Marianist communities
- Marianist Prayer
*Explore various "methods" or practices of prayer,
including both individual and group prayer. Notice how the Spirit of God is
always at work, everywhere--including your own heart.
Each
vlc course begins on October 14 and ends on November 17, 2007.
(Note: Registration for fall vlc closes on October
10.)
|
 |
 |
|
Class size for each
vlc will be limited to 12 participants, and the course fee for each Marianist
vlc is $40. Basic computer skills are required.
To register for a course,
visithttp://vlc.udayton.edu/register/.
Select the "North American Center for Marianist Studies" selection in the
drop-down menu of the profile form, which is listed in the drop-down menu after
all of the dioceses.
(Note: It is important for participants to keep up
with course content.) |

Beatification of Madrid Martyrs
Pope Benedict XVI, has approved
four Marianists Martyrs for beatification
on October 28, 2007 in Rome.
Miguel Libar, Joaqun Ochoa Salazar, Sabino Ayastuy Errasti and Florencio Arniz Cejudo will be beatified along with 494 other martyrs of the religious persecution in Spain during the years 1936-1939.
MARIANIST LOGO FOR THE BEATIFICATION

Four blots of color revealing interconnected crosses and a central "M" which unites these crosses.
Red, the color of fire, passion and of blood. Dark red, the color of blood spilt on the ground.
A flame of fire over a fragile clay lamp.
An impetuous wind that stirs the flame and retells the story.
A tree leaf that falls by this violent autumn wind in Madrid.
The four crosses hold the delicate leaf together amidst the storm.
A claw print that recalls the clawing of a wild animal. And over the print, the Cross, many crosses.
Four names that explain it all, without any other references - without saying where, nor when, nor who. Four names written in capital letters, firm and stable, which invite us to remain strong in faith at the foot of the Cross, of our crosses.

International Team Meeting in November
The leadership team of the International Organization of MLC is preparing for its annual meetings in Rome during the first week of November. Three days will be dedicated to the work of the IO/MLC and three days for our collaborative work with the World Marianist Family Council.
Annual reports are an important part of our meeting, as we share both the joys and struggles, the areas of growth and the ongoing needs within our regions. I will be contacting the National Responsibles within our region for reports on the Marianist Lay Communities within your country. Please feel free to contact your National Responsibles if there are any special issues or concerns that you would like them to forward to the leadership team.
We humbly ask for your prayerful support during our preparations - that we may do all in the service of Mary, united in the mission of her Son, Jesus....
Peace,
Isabella
