5th International Meeting of MLC
The International Team of MLC is pleased to announce that the 5th International Meeting of Marianist Lay Communities will be held in Nairobi, Kenya, from August 2 - 8, 2009. The Marianist Lay Communities in Africa have graciously accepted the task of preparing the site for this next meeting. Lorna Mueni (Regional Responsible for Africa) will be coordinating their efforts. We thank Lorna and our sisters and brothers in Africa for their generous and faith-filled response to this challenge.
The Comunidades Laicas Marianistas in Spain have also graciously accepted the task of preparing the working document for our upcoming meeting. Ana Blzquez Ubach (Regional Responsible for Europe) is coordinating this work. The theme for the next meeting and document is: Marianist Lay Communities in the Church and in the World.
All of us on the International Team are excited about the upcoming meeting and ask our worldwide Marianist Family to join us in prayer for the success of this endeavor. May we continue to walk with Mary in the way of her Son, Jesus.

Marianist International Volunteers (MIV/VIM)

Dear friends of the Marianist Family,
Here is a new edition of the On-Line MIV Newsletter, with the latest news of our Marianist International Volunteers in Congo, Bangladesh and Brazil. You will also read here about the activities and agreements established by the MIV coordinator upon his visit in France at the beginning of the year.
Remember that some of the stories you will read here (two out of the three in fact) are about people who decided to become MIV volunteers thanks to this very same Newsletter, which at the time inspired them. Even though it will never be the same as a direct testimony from either the MIV volunteers or from the Coordinator, this is still a very direct and inexpensive way to make the MIV known. It is also very effective, since some people end up volunteering after being appealed by the stories published here, so help us spread the word!
Don't forget that this edition is also available in French and Spanish, so feel free to request them if you need them.
In favor of the globalization of solidarity and the international cooperation.
Jos Luis PEREZ

Marianist Family Retreat in Hawaii

The Hawaii MLC's (Marianist Lay Communities) started the Marianist Family Retreat program in Hawaii on May 5 - 6. Families from Sacred Heart elementary school in Lahaina, Maui asked the Hawaii Marianist Lay Communities to run a retreat for them. Vince and Laura Morigliani, long time Marianists from Philadelphia, came to teach the "how to's" to the Hawaii retreat team. Coordinating all of the logistics and planning between the mainland and two islands was formidable. Nonetheless, the Spirit was at work and all went beautifully for the five families of retreatants. Bros. Dennis Schmitz from Honolulu and Jim Vorndran from Maui took supportive roles on the team. Strategizing is now beginning for the next retreat in September on Oahu and for eventually expanding the retreat program around the state.
Puppets were a major ingredient for the skits. They joined their alter ego's for the team picture of the Marianist Family. (Puppet names are in italics.)
