About our Market Partners

Cuyahoga Valley National Park is the partner for our Saturday morning market at its new Howe Meadow location.  Established in 1974 as a National Recreation Area, the park received National Park status in 2000.  Cuyahoga Valley National Park is also Countryside Conservancy's partner for the Countryside Initiative program, which offers long-term leases of farms within the National Park boundaries.  For more information on Cuyahoga Valley National Park visit their website.  For more information on the Countryside Initiative click here.

Assorted Winter Squash

Dear Market Supporter,

After a long wait, there will be strawberries at the market this Saturday - hooray!  (I think there may even be a smattering of them at the Wednesday market, too- better come early just in case...)  While the season is delayed there is still plenty of good food to be had at both of our markets.  While strawberries excite just about everyone, refreshing salads in this heat are a great way to enjoy the local bounty, and are on our family's menu plan all week long.

Thanks to everyone who came out and gave us such a warm reception at our new Highland Square home.  We are so happy to be there!  We are making a few adjustments to our layout this week to accommodate all shoppers- we realize that some of the booths were not easily accessible for everyone, but we think we have fixed that problem; let us know how we did- we love your feedback.

See you at the market,
Beth Knorr
Market Manager

Market Happenings

As mentioned above, we'll be adjusting the layout of our Highland Square market with the hopes of making it a bit more accessible for everyone.  Thanks for sticking with us while we work out the kinks of a new location!

On Saturday, Nick Malakar will be sharing some music with market-goers while mother-daughter team Darlene and Mackenzie cook up some food that's sure to be a hit with both kids and adults!

We are looking for a few good volunteers for our Highland Square market!  Help with set-up, tear-down, and customer counting would be greatly appreciated.  If you are interested, please contact Heather at marketassistant@cvcountryside.org.

Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are needed June 17th, 18th, and 19th to help out with the Ninth Annual Summer Solstice Wine, Art & Blues Festival at Sarah's Vineyard (1204 W. The following shifts are available:

Friday, June 17th

3-7pm and 7-10:30pm

Saturday, June 18th

Coeur a la Creme

from Lori Longbottom via Bon Appetit

** Denotes an ingredient available at the market!

4 (10x10-inch) squares cheesecloth

8 oz. cream cheese, room temperature**

1 cup creme fraiche or sour cream

6 tablespoons powdered sugar, divided

1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

pinch of salt

1 pound small strawberries, hulled, quartered  (about 1 2/3 cups)**

Coeur a la creme molds are perforated, heart-shaped, and available online or at one of several area stores that sell cheese-making supplies (just do an internet search for "cheese making Akron, OH").  You can also rig up makeshift molds by cutting the sides of four 12-ounce paper cups to 3 inches high.  With a toothpick, poke 12 holes in the bottom of each.  Line with cheesecloth; fill as directed.

Rinse cheesecloth under water; squeeze until just damp.  Line each of the 3- to 4-inch coeur a la creme molds with 1 square of cheesecloth.  Using electric mixer, beat cream cheese, creme fraiche, 4 tablespoons powdered sugar, lemon juice, vanilla, and salt in large bowl until smooth, about 4 minutes.  Press through fine strainer; divide among molds.  Fold cheesecloth over.  Place molds in shallow baking dish; cover with plastic wrap.  Chill at least 4 hours and up to 1 day.

Stir strawberries with 2 tablespoons powdered sugar; let stand 30 minutes.  Unwrap molds; invert onto plates.  Spoon strawberries around and serve.

Dog Policy

While we love our four-legged friends, dogs are not permitted at the Countryside Farmers' Markets.  They are, however, permitted to play at Howe Meadow, walk on the towpath or elsewhere in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, but must remain on a leash at all times.
