About our Market Partners
Cuyahoga Valley National Park is the partner for our Saturday morning market at its new Howe Meadow location. Established in 1974 as a National Recreation Area, the park received National Park status in 2000. Cuyahoga Valley National Park is also Countryside Conservancy's partner for the Countryside Initiative program, which offers long-term leases of farms within the National Park boundaries. | Dear Market Supporter,
Despite the incredible amount of rain we've had this spring, there is an abundance of fresh items lined up for opening day at Countryside Farmers' Market at Howe Meadow. I can't wait for the asparagus and rhubarb. I've seen it in the grocery stores, but have been waiting to get my hands on the really good stuff from our local growers. And for those gardeners among us, there will be a nice selection of plant starts for your pots and backyard plots! We are so excited to be moving back outdoors! Can you believe this is our third season at Howe Meadow? I remember wringing my hands a few years ago about whether coming here was the right move for the market. We are still excited and feel privileged to be here, and we want to do our part to help the National Park Service maintain our shared natural resources. Over the past two seasons we have noticed that we have been having a big impact on some sensitive areas at Howe Meadow. So, we are undergoing a bit of a 'facelift' this year and shifting our location slightly in order to reduce our impact. This will allow the site of the past two seasons to recover from heavy foot traffic. Stop by the info booth and let us know what you think. We're sure you'll enjoy the new layout, and know you understand how important it is that we walk our talk of sustainability at Countryside Conservancy. We are also walking our talk in another way this year. I have wanted to incorporate a waste diversion program in our markets for some time now, and thanks to funding from the Summit Akron Solid Waste Management Authority (and some incredibly hard work by market staff member, Sage) it is becoming a reality this season. We think our market customers are already savvy shoppers (click here to take a short survey), but hope we can provide information that will help us all become more informed about how small changes can make a big impact on our market, our communities, and our household budgets! Check out Sage's blog post for details on the program, and see below for a line-up of activities to celebrate! See You at the Market-
