About our Market Partners

Cuyahoga Valley National Park is the partner for our Saturday morning market at its new Howe Meadow location.  Established in 1974 as a National Recreation Area, the park received National Park status in 2000.  Cuyahoga Valley National Park is also Countryside Conservancy's partner for the Countryside Initiative program, which offers long-term leases of farms within the National Park boundaries.  For more information on Cuyahoga Valley National Park visit their website.  For more information on the Countryside Initiative click here.

Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens is the partner and host of our Thursday evening market.  Stan Hywet is the historic country estate of F.A. and Gertrude Seiberling.  Built between 1912 and 1915, the 65 room Manor House and grounds are available to the public in keeping with the Seiberling crest motto "Non Nobus Solum" or "Not for us Alone."  For more information on this magnificent museum and its gardens visit their website at Stan Hywet.

Dear Market Supporter,

Surrounded by large piles of snow, it's hard to believe there are tiny sprouts pushing through the soil in anticipation of ending up on our dinner plates later this year. February in the hoophouse was always one of my favorite times of the year when I was still farming.  When everyone else was bundled up in layers, I was shedding them and breathing in the scent of sweet soil while planting seeds and hoping for a good germination rate.  And at this time of year, the farm fields are weed-free with nary an insect around, so you could envision a perfect season (which never happens, mind you.)

It is with gratitude and excitement, and admittedly a bit of envy, that I hear farmers speak of their greenhouse activities while I sit at my desk.  But I can easily get caught up in the excitement of a new variety of eggplant or greens, and always look forward to tasting the results in the end.

So come join us this Saturday and catch spring fever along with the rest of us here at the Conservancy.  And add to the seasonal excitement by learning more about our area's CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture programs), as we will be showcasing a number of them at this market. Learn how they work and what farms provide them, and have the opportunity to sign up if you are smitten!

See You at the Market-
