Virtually Sorted News November 2008
 cm picGreetings!

November already and, if you are anything like this shopping-phobe, you will have your Christmas shopping sorted and all your cards addressed and ready to go.

Although usually whilst everyone is battling the crowds, I'm stressing over my tax return!   However this year I can be extra smug because Lynsey, our bookkeeper, has all the stuff ready for the accountant in beautiful, fully broken down, electronic reports.  If you want to join me in being insufferably smug, email Lynsey now and ask how you can start outsourcing your finance functions.

However the focus this month is on time management and how to get through the mutinae of tasks on your To Do List.  We're here to help - in fact we're even offering all our newsletter subscribers a one-hour To Do List Blitz to get you started - feel free to pass it on to your "time challenged" friends!

Kind regards,
Caroline
time management Time Management by Emma
What is "Time Management"? We can't change time, we can't make more of it or make it faster or slower, but we can use it more efficiently!

American humorist, Robert Benchley once said,
"Anyone can do any amount of work provided it isn't the work he is supposed to be doing at the moment."

And we must all confess to being guilty of that!  But, by effectively managing your To Do list and outsourcing the tasks which don't require you to do them personally, you can ensure your time is spent working on the parts of your business which you do enjoy and which are critical to its success.

The best way to make the most of your time is to make sure you are working in a distraction free environment.
  • Switch off your mobile phone
  • Divert your calls to your answering service
  • Close down your emails
  • Write a To Do list and keep it updated

We all have some jobs we enjoy doing and some that we always leave till the very last minute . These regular and important jobs are the ones you should outsource, leaving you free to do the high priority jobs and tasks you do enjoy!

A combination of giving yourself deadlines and goals and sticking to them and outsourcing will result in productive use of your time and hey - you might even find that you DO have more of it!

Get Organised For 2009
If your plan for 2009 is to become one of those effortlessly organised people, mirror the success of others by learning through their actions.  You might even want to add these to your Christmas list:
  • 7 Habits of Highly Effective People:  Stephen Covey's bible for effective living. Lots of good stuff in this, but it's not a "how to" guide to sort your entire life out.
  • Upgrade Your Life: I wasn't a huge fan of this, but if you are really geeky you'll love all the intricate gizmos here.  I couldn't help wondering if it didn't take longer to do some of these "life hacks" than actually do the task, but there were some pretty nifty shortcuts.
  • Getting Things Done: This book gives you a workable system for managing your time. For me, it's a bit too paper based, but it gives some good pointers to getting started.
  • www.43things.com:  Not a book but a website - a sort of wish list/aspirational to do list which sends you reminders to keep you on track.time management
And of course our own time management tool in the form of our ebook - including a time tracking device, and lots of useful "cheats" to steal back some of your own time.
