After her fatal choice... extraordinary hope. Kristen Anderson
thought she had the picture perfect life until strokes of gray dimmed
her outlook on life. Once a happy child, Kristen's world darkened after
three friends and her grandmother died within two years. Still reeling
from these losses, she was raped by a friend she thought she could
trust. She soon spiraled into a depression that didn't seem to have a
bottom. One January night, the seventeen-year-old made a
decision: She no longer wanted to deal with the emotional pain that
smothered her. She lay down on a set of cold railroad tracks and
waited-for a freight train to send her to heaven...and peace. Amazingly,
Kristen survived her suicide attempt... but the 33 freight cars that
ran over her severed her legs. Now she not only had to deal with
depression; she also had to face the physical pain and life without
legs. But Kristen's story didn't end there. After her darkest
days Kristen discovered a real purpose for living. Now, in her
compelling book Life, In Spite of Me, Kristen shares her journey from
despair to hope. Includes letters from Kristen that share
messages she wishes someone would have told her-when she was depressed
and struggling with loss, shame from sexual abuse, and suicidal
thoughts. Read more about it or order it! |

Hello from Arkansas!
Last week I rubbed my blurry eyes as I headed into the kitchen to prepare a bottle for our baby girl, Alyssa. The first rays of dawn filtered through the kitchen window and a robin chirped from a tree branch just outside the paned glass. Warming the milk, I glanced out at our car and rubbed my eyes again. A layer of yellow-green dust covered the car, reminiscent of the Montana snow. Pollen! I took the bottle to my daughter and as I nestled her to my chest, feeding her, I considered the evidence of new life, of spring. Pollen bursting forth, drifting, carried on the wind. Much like I've felt lately. For the rest of the day I watched spring bloom outside my window: white apple blossoms, green blades of grass, bright rays. A robin found a worm. A squirrel scampered up the tree. In Montana, snow still fell. Old friends donned sweaters and gripped steaming cups of coffee as they hurried to their cars. I think of them often, my memories frozen in time. Yet winter doesn't remain forever. Spring will reach them, too. In God's perfect timing, we'll each experience all things new. Eager to see God's work bud in your life! Sincerely,
Tricia Goyer

Some things you may have missed! It's Real Life
A few posts from the blog you may have missed! I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Serving Your Spouse There are two ways we can approach the dirty laundry-with resentment and
competition (I do more than he/she does . . .) or with a heart of
service and love, as Jesus showed us. The latter is the better choice,
of course.
The Past I'd turn to God. Plead with him to wash away the thoughts and scrub away
the layers of longings. But more often than not, I'd discover a
toughened skin of memories and emotions beneath the surface of the one
peeled away.
Is your heart open for intimacy? One definition of intimacy that I've heard, and I have used in my
writing, is: "In-To-Me-See." But this is only possible when there is
transparency between spouses-including sharing the truth about past
conflicts, pain from former relationships, and personal struggles (both
past and present).
Husbands need respect If we're going to strive for "forever" we need
to think of the ways we can make this thing last. This is part of the
work and the planning. A good question to ask is: How can I show my husband the respect he
desires?
