Dear Converge Family,
On February 18th last year, my brother Godfrey had a traumatic brain injury, fell into a coma, and underwent a series of dangerous surgeries. It was a painful experience for our family and community, and it was the beginning several difficult months to follow. In many ways, the memory is too fresh and the wounds of that season are still open, especially as we reach this milestone. We still have many unresolved questions and we're waiting for God to show up in specific ways, especially in our family relationships. But the questions haunting a suffering person, "Where is God?" or "Lord, where were you?" (John 11) had a clear, immediate answer through each of you. Because of your steady prayer, encouragement, and generosity, we never doubted that God was with us. It was one of those special times when a family of pastors needs to be cared for by others and sense the presence of the Good Shepherd while in "the valley of the shadow of death". We know for certain that this would be a very different anniversary if not for your ministry to us, so we thank God for you.
You'll be glad to know that my brother's condition has improved significantly in the past year. He's not yet standing or walking, but he's able to use the internet and has just started vocalizing a few words. And while there are always financial and emotional challenges, we're praying that Godfrey would persevere in faith, continue in recovery, and soon return to leading his family. And of course, he's closely following the first-place Chicago Bulls and the widespread LinSanity. =)
Sowing in tears, reaping in joy.
