PTO Co-Presidents' Letter
| | Dear Burr School Parents and caretakers,
What an exciting school year it's been already! The PTO has been busy in the first couple of weeks with our Kindergarten and Back-to-School Picnics, Teacher Appreciation Luncheon, and Back-to-School Coffee. We welcomed a number of Kindergarten families over the summer with our Kindergarten play-dates. Please look for future events listed on the NEW and Improved PTO website (thank you Tricia Bombara!). Mark your calendars for these important upcoming September dates:
Sept. 20: Curriculum Night 6:30 PM Start Sept. 21: School Pictures Sept. 26: No School - Yom Kippur Sept. 27: First PTO Meeting, 7 PM Start (6:30 for New Families)
The Blue Zone was certainly bustling during the first week of school. Thank you to all the parents who followed the rules during what always turns out to be a busy time. With enrollment over 400 students this year at Burr it is critical that ALL families and caretakers utilizing the The Blue Zone follow the guidelines. Please check out Safe Routes to School for more ideas on how to keep our children safe and our Blue Zone working efficiently.
We know everyone is looking forward to the 2012-2013 version of the Burr School Directory - a critical tool for organizing playdates and birthday parties. The information form is now online at the PTO website. Even if your information hasn't changed, please check this to ensure your information is up-to-date. Hard copies of the directory are due out in October.
We would like to take a brief moment to introduce ourselves. Our new board members this year include Tricia Bombara (Communications Coordinator), Beth Tierney (Education Support Coordinator), and Bijal Dalal (Community Building Coordinator). They join standing members Jason Wong and Ted Vahey (Co-Presidents), Rachael McCarthy (Treasurer), Jessica Avery (Fund Raising Coordinator), and Kim Susko (Secretary). We would like to thank our outgoing members Tracy Carter, Maren Oslund and Collette Burke for their invaluable contributions and efforts.
We, the PTO Board, all share an interest in making the Burr community a vibrant and inclusive place for parents and students. We want everyone to support the school's goals for development and enrichment while developing camaraderie amongst Burr families. You can lend a helping hand, whether you stay at home or work full time. With over 300 volunteer opportunities over the course of the year, there are a variety of ways one can contribute at school or remotely. While some events are during school, other events and event preparation can be done in the evenings and on the weekends. Contact a board member or visit the Burr PTO website to find out how you can help.
Lastly, thank you to Vicky Gifford and the many volunteers who helped make the Back-to-School Picnic a success! Also, thank you to Sloane Goldhagen and the rest of the hospitality crew for hosting a wonderful Welcome Back Teacher Appreciation luncheon. Nicely done!
We look forward to seeing you on September 27th!
See you around The Burr! Ted & Jason

Gift For Burr...It's Coming!
| | |
As we get ready for another great school year, our community is also gearing up to raise the funds critical to supporting Ms. Johal and the Burr staff in our classrooms. For the past six years, the PTO's Gift For Burr annual fundraising drive has helped us infuse an average of $45,000 into our school--an amount that exceeds Burr's entire annual operating budget from the city.
Gift for Burr 2012 kicks off on October 1st! Keep an eye out this year for fabulous weekly prize drawings available to early contributors only - stay tuned!

| Burr School Library Needs Volunteers! | | |
Please consider donating a half-hour of your time every other week to assisting your child's class in the Burr Library! It's a great way to get to know your child's classmates while providing a valuable service to our school. Ms. Mayer and Ms. Holzheimer can be available to help kids search for their "just right books" as we parents take care of reshelving and check-out. Kids really look forward to their parent's help day - and it's fun!
Check out the list below and let us know if you can help by emailing Emma Woodward - emma.woodward@ictoan.net. - Thank you!
