Staffing Update - From Mindy Johal

Mindy Johal

Dear Families,

I want to update you on some recent staffing changes at Burr.

Ms. Ingram, our music teacher, is now on maternity leave and will be out for the remainder of the school
year. We wish her luck as she awaits the birth of her second child. Deanna Mustachio will be filling in for Ms. Ingram. She will take over fifth grade chorus and all of the music classes on Wednesday and Thursday.

Ms. Michna, the P.E teacher, is out on medical leave and Jesse Coleman will be substituting for her until she returns to work. Jesse just completed his student teaching at Brown Middle School and comes highly recommended. He previously completed a student teaching practicum at the elementary level and is excited about teaching P.E to young children.

Ms. Jaquith, our art teacher, has been impaneled on a Grand Jury. Her service began last week and will last until the end of June. This means that she will be out on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and the fourth Monday of each month. Luckily, we have been able to find a substitute for Diane. Jen Burkin will be the art teacher on the days that Diane is out. Jen will shadow Diane on Monday and will be introduced to the students.

Please be sure to contact me if you have any question or concerns.

Sincerely,

Mindy Johal

The Burr Bookswap is Finally Here!
This week only!!!!! Send your gently-used K-5 books off to school
every day, in a bag clearly marked with your student's name, grade
and teacher. In exchange, students get to choose books from various
categories, ranging from early readers to classics, non-fiction to hobbies and sports. Every year we have many books left over and several charities in the area get the gift of reading from our generous Burr families. Collections will be taken every morning through Friday, April 13th.

The book swap will be held on Tuesday, April 24th.

We also need plenty of help collecting and sorting books, and setting up, staffing and cleaning up after the swap. Please sign up to help out on our Doodle poll if you have a few minutes to spare.
Your help will be greatly appreciated!

Classroom Literature Fund for Teacher Appreciation Week
As Teacher Appreciation week approaches (May7-11th), many of us wish to recognize and thank our children's teachers for the exceptional job they do. A donation to the Classroom Literature Fund is a great way to say thank you while complying with the Newton School Committee's "no gift" policy.  The Fund also supports your child's education by providing books for his or her classroom.

Fund donations are pooled and divided equally among all Burr teachers in the form of gift certificates to the New England Mobile Book Fair, where teachers can purchase books for their classrooms. Along with the gift certificate, each teacher or specialist receives a note with the names of the families who have donated in their honor.

If you'd like to thank your child's teacher with a donation to the
Classroom Literature Fund, please fill out the form that will be sent home in your child's folder and make your check payable to the Burr School PTO. You can return it to the Classroom Literature Fund by May 4th via the folder in your child's backpack.  Thank you!
