Get Ready for the Burr Book Swap! | |
Did you spend some time cleaning out closets and shelves this past February break? Set aside some gently-used books for the annual Burr Bookswap!
This is a wonderful opportunity for students to exchange books they have read for ones they don't have yet, and gives parents/ guardians the chance to trim those dusty bookshelves.
Between April 2nd and April 13th, we will be collecting gently used K-5 books. Please leave them in a bag outside your student's classroom.
Make sure your student's name, grade and teacher's name are marked clearly on the bag. We will be sending home slips to help aid in the process at the end of March.
On Tuesday April 24th, classes will visit the Book Swap. Students pick out one book for every two they handed in. Every student gets a book, regardless of whether they donated or not. Teachers get their pick too, and leftover books are donated to local charities and schools.
Please send only books suitable for K through 5. No preschool, adult, or activity/workbooks.
We will be needing parent volunteers to help sort the books after drop-off (4/2/12-4/13/12) & during the day of the swap (4/24/12). If you have a few minutes to spare after drop off, please contact Maren at marenoslund@gmail.com. Thanks! |

| "It's a Boy!" Parenting Workshop March 8 | | |
Boys often frustrate and bewilder us. It is difficult for parents occasionally not to wish, from time to time, that their sons behaved a bit more like their daughters. The Newton Partnership is excited to present Dr. Michael Thompson, internationally recognized psychologist, speaker and author. Dr. Thompson is known for his exciting speaking style and compelling advice. Join us for this parenting workshop entitled and named after his book: IT'S A BOY! Understanding Your Son's Development From Birth to Age 18 on Thursday, March 8, 2012 from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M., Newton South Auditorium, 140 Brandeis Road 02459. NO REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. This presentation is targeted for parents of K - 12 children. Suggested donation: $5 at the door.
This workshop offers participants the chance to talk just about boys: their biology, their neurology and their psychology. Dr. Thompson will introduce participants to the most recent research on boy development, starting from birth and continuing through adolescence. |
