| Upcoming Creative Arts & Sciences Programs | |
2nd Grade, Storytelling Arts
Children's Theater Through Multicultural Folktales Storytelling Arts is a multi-faceted creative arts project offering students a hands-on opportunity to use their own artwork to dramatize a Mexcian folktale. It encourages individual expression and provides a framework for working together on a dramatic arts project. There are two sessions. In the first session ( and the one that we need help with), students will work in small groups in their own classroom to develop masks and interactive scenery representing the characters in the folktale. In the second session, there is a rehearsal and then a performance during which the students present their dramatic interpretation of the folktale for an audience of schoolmates and parents. The schedule will be as follows:
Tuesday, June 8th: 9:50-10:30 Performance for Ms. Robert's class in the Cafetorium
Friday, June 11th: 8:45 -10:15
Construction session for Ms. Littlejohn's class
Friday, June 11th: 10:20-11:50
Construction session for Ms. Creeden's class
Tuesday, June 15th: 9:50-10:30
Performance for Ms. Littlejohn and Ms. Creeden's classes
together in the Cafetorium
We still need volunteers for the upcoming June 11th construction sessions. This program can only be successful with your help. You do not need to have a child in second grade or be artistic. All help will be gratefully accepted. You can volunteer by contacting either Beth Tierney or Felicia Falchuk at the e-mail addresses below. And, if you have a child in second grade, mark your calendars for what is sure to be a fantastic performance (invitations will follow).
Kindergarten, Explore the Ocean World
Ellen Goethel, Friday, June 11th in the Cafetorium
Ellen Goethel is a marine biologist. In a lovely, low-key approach, Ellen explains her ground rules, emphasizing respect and gentleness when handling the live animals that she presents. She has three stations, two with animals' remains (shark jaw and teeth, whale vertebra, starfish, shells, etc.) and one water table with the live specimens. Ellen carefully defines the scientific terms she uses to explain the animals. After her explanations, the students are free to have a hands-on experience at each table. The schedule will be as follows:
9:15 - 10:00 Ms. Frail 10:05 - 10:50 Ms. McMahon 10:55 - 11:40 Ms. Fitch/Mrs. Kelly
5th Grade, Dave Granlund, Political Cartoonist
