Burr Auction Update
Win a free entrance ticket to the Auction!
raffleIt's easy!  Each Friday we will be drawing one of the submitted 50/50 raffle tickets and the lucky winner will get a free ticket to the auction!  On each raffle ticket you will see "Student Name" for the name of the child/family that sold the ticket!  Please make sure to fill that in on all tickets you submit.  All tickets will remain in the running each week.  The more tickets you sell, the more chance you have of winning.  All tickets sold will be put in the 50/50 raffle so you may win a free admission AND the 50/50 monetary prize!  Our first winner was The Flint Family - congratulations!  If you have any questions about the 50/50 raffle please contact Carey RantaIf you need additional raffle tickets, more are available in the PTO Box in the school office.

Repect for Human Differences Committee
Today (11/17), 4:00-5:30 in library - all welcome!
The Burr Respect for Human Differences (RHD) Committee is a group of parents and teachers who work on our school community's growth toward respect for human differences, one of the core values of our Newton Public Schools.  Initiatives this year include promoting anti-bullying education at Burr and a possible parent-teacher book group on various topics pertaining to RHD issues.

We look forward to our work this year and hope that new folks will join our committee!  For more information, please contact one of this year's RHD Committee Co-Chairs:

Burr School Council
Next meeting Nov 24 at 4:30, parents welcome
The Burr School Council has begun meeting this year!  At our first meeting we reviewed goals, procedures and past council work, then we brainstormed possible agenda items for the year. This lively discussion included: educating students for the 21st century, achieving academic excellence despite deteriorating school funding, technology in the classroom, bringing world issues into Burr in a positive way (with specific discussion of increasing recycling efforts at Burr), space and class size issues, building problems such as drafty windows, and safety on Pine Street.

November's meeting will focus on recycling and Pine Street safety. All meetings will be on Monday afternoons in Melyssa Taylor's class or in the library.  Parents and teachers are welcome to attend meetings and/or to contact council members in person, by telephone, or through school-council@burrpto.org.  School Council members are also listed in the directory.

Parking at Burr
A reminder...
Many thanks to everyone for their patience as the roads are repaved around school -- things should quiet down now since all that is left is line painting.  Parking on Pine Street should ease up again and we would like to remind everyone that the teachers' parking lot is not available for parent parking except for evening and weekend events.  Even if you are at school for an early morning conference, we ask that you park on Pine street in approved areas so that teachers will have spots available when they arrive at school in the morning.  Thanks!
