 In 2007, through an exchange of a Flat Stanley, the 2nd graders (now 4th graders) made a connection with some children in Ghana. Lead by then 2nd grade classroom teacher Jen Toran, they put together a cookbook to raise money for these children living at and attending the Offin Children's Center (OCC) in Offinso, Ghana.
Now, the OCC Founder and Director, Mary Osei, is traveling to the United States, including Newton, to thank those who have supported this cause. She will stay with a Burr family and spend several days during the week of October 20th visiting various classrooms to thank the students and share information about Ghana.
Join Mary for a meet and greet today, Monday, October 20th, from 3:00 - 4:00, in the library. Mary is really looking forward to meeting Burr students and families - please come and say hello! Treats will be provided. |

 Bullying is a serious concern for parents and a significant problem in schools today.
-- Have you ever worried that your child might bully or be bullied?
-- What does the latest research tell us about the different roles
students play in the bullying dynamic?
-- What is the latest research on the effective prevention of bullying in schools ?
-- We will discuss these issues and learn about what is being done to promote a respectful and safe environment at Burr.
Please join in the discussion at the PTO meeting on Tuesday October 28th, 7pm. Childcare will be provided.

| Absence / Tardy Line Reminder |

Whenever your child will be absent or late, please call the Absence / Tardy line at 617/559-9380 before 8:20 am. This phone number has an answering machine that you may call any time, 24 hours a day. When you call, leave your child's name, day of absence/tardiness, teacher's name, your name and reason for absence or tardiness. If you have not called in your child's absence, you will be phoned at home or at work. The principal will be notified if parents cannot be reached.
