Greetings!

...welcome to another OraMedia Newsletter.
For the past several weeks it seems as though my entire attention has been on the U.S. Government's insistence to bail out our failing financial industry. Funny how the same 'experts' that brought us to this point feel that they are the only ones that can 'fix' the problem by dumping more non-existing money. It's like authorizing a drug cartel to resolve the 'war on drugs.'
As if that isn't enough happy news, last month the Associated Press did a follow up story about their report on pharmaceutical waste in our drinking water. I covered it in a March issue of this newsletter but now they are reporting that the problem is far more widespread than originally thought.
As in the banking situation above, we put our trust in government to protect us, yet just the opposite seems to be the case - they actually created the problem by promoting and allowing careless destructive and deceptive financial activity to occur. You can trace this back nearly 100 years with the creation of the Federal Reserve System.
We are not seeing any media coverage over the Pharma/toxicity issue, so don't expect much gov't. response (outside of California).
This newsletter and the OraMedia site is about Dental Self Sufficiency. I suggest that you seriously consider becoming more and more self-sufficient in your every day lives, in all matters. No one will ever take care of you like you. No one should be expected to.
On with it...

Pharma Cocktails Straight From The Tap
The photo above is the result of a toxic spill in the NY/NJ area a while back. These are the sorts of things we are most used to when we think of 'water pollution.' We also think in terms of some diabolical corporate entity carelessly and deliberately or accidentally spilling industrial waste into our rivers and streams.
Yet another type of pollution affecting not only our rivers and streams but our drinking water as well, is the dumping of a vast variety of drugs into our sewers, ultimately ending up back into our tap water. This time, however, we have a share in the blame for this mess... and a big one it is, according to the Associated Press's investigative staff.
Back in March, I included this story in the OraMedia Newsletter. As it turns out, it was just the tip of the iceberg at that time. The pharmaceutical dumping is far more severe and widespread than originally thought. To see the effect of this careless dumping and what it means to you, read 'AP Impact: Tons of drugs dumped into wastewater' .
What is your community doing about it? California has taken the initiative: 'Calif. warns people not to flush pharmaceuticals'
(AP) -- The state of California has a warning for
its 36 million residents: Do not flush pharmaceuticals down the toilet
or drain, or they may end up in a river near you. Or, it turns out,
even in the drinking water.
State and local officials are
teaming with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for a "No Drugs
Down the Drain Week," starting with events Oct. 2. The program
recommends that drugs be dropped at special collection sites or tossed
in the trash.
The event comes less than two weeks after The Associated Press
published an investigative report about the dangers of flushing
millions of pounds of unused pharmaceuticals annually by the American
health care industry and consumers. The ongoing AP investigation has
revealed that tests show the drinking water supplies of at least 46
million Americans contain minute concentrations of pharmaceuticals,
including antibiotics, anti-convulsants and mood stabilizers. What can YOU do to protect yourself and your family?
Obviously, you should clean your water. You can see the problem when it is left up to someone else to do that for you. Municipalities clean/filter/treat for certain known contaminants and biological pathogens. What about the unknowns - the pharmaceuticals, etc.?
You say you have a well? Certainly, there are other factors to be concerned with; perhaps high mineral content, pathogens, aquifer polluted from pesticides and fertilizers, local dumping, etc.
As far as drinking water goes your safest bet is to distill your water. Distillation is not filtration. Distilled water has been converted from a liquid state to a vaporous one, cooled and converted back to liquid where it is captured as a final product - leaving behind all contaminants. In my opinion, it is a far superior method of achieving clean water than any type of filtration method, with the exception of reverse osmosis, which is a more thorough type of filtration, yet wasteful of water in the process.
The most common argument against distillation is the lack of minerals and pH, which can easily be altered to suit yourself. We use our Concentrace mineral product in our drinking water and are quite pleased with it. We also know exactly which minerals are now in our water, in the proper form and at the proper levels.
Please consider purchasing one of our counter top distillers for your home. I have looked and looked for years for a better, more affordable one in its class and aside from home-built solar distillers I have found none. If I had, I'd be selling it.
Regarding bathing water, there are shower filters available which won't remove everything, but will remove a great deal of contaminants coming through that outlet. I do not sell these but you can see one at http://www.eves-best.com/ Evie is one of our customers and just sent in a nice testimonial about our Dr. Collins Perio Toothbrushes (see below). I often will peruse customers' web sites and found the shower filter on hers. There is a photo and link to the shower filter right there on her home page. I'll be getting a couple of these for my home.
While you wait around for your municipality to take care of your problem, YOU could be doing something even better about it now.

On Oral Irrigation
In the last issue I wrote an article on oral irrigation in hopes to instruct a little and to help clear up a few questions about the process.
Recently I uploaded a video discussing the components of the ViaJet Pro oral irrigator with the hopes of answering questions about that product. It was my first video and ad-lib, so please bear with me on the quality... However, if you have had an interest in purchasing one of these units, please take a look at the video to see what you will be getting.

Digestion: A - Z
We know that digestion of foods begins immediately upon entering the mouth; the teeth bite, rip and pulverize and the saliva begins to metabolize foods before we take the first swallow. We also should know that we need to keep our teeth and supporting tissue healthy and in good shape for that process.
What actually happens as the food enters the mouth? The digestive process throughout the body is immediately signaled and the process begins...
Read this very informative article: How Does Digestion Work and How Can I Improve Mine? from the George Mateljan Foundation web site. You will want to print this article and share it with lots of folks, or you should anyway.

Dr. Collins Perio Toothbrush
Tom,
I had asked you if the Dr. Collins toothbrushes would be good for kids and ordered one for each of us. My kids are 7 and almost 6, and have been brushing their own teeth. I realized it had been a couple of weeks since I had flossed them, and panicked. When I did floss them, there was hardly anything there! This is definitely because of the new brushes, and I am absolutely amazed and thrilled. I just recommended the brush to a group with small kids. I will be buying the 6-pack at Christmas time to share with friends and family!
Have a Healthy Day! Evie Maddox 9/29/08
