Greetings! Welcome to another OraMedia Newsletter. Many things have been on my mind regarding the subject of oral health from the standpoint of the cost, the concept itself and the consequences of neglecting your teeth & gums. Most of this attention comes from recent news and frequent conversations with Dr. and Ruth Nara, other dental professionals, microbiologists and even a psychiatrist with strong interest. While my head is spinning from input over the past 8 or so weeks I am putting it together and will get it to you in more frequent newsletters with information on keeping your teeth healthy for life and saving a lot of money in the process. Medical Risks of Periodontal Infections ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the past I made attempts to forward news linking
oral health to different systemic diseases. Here is
a pretty straightforward list, including the
corresponding research sources.
While it is not my purpose to play on the fear of people, I feel that it is important to point out just how unnecessary some of these maladies could be later in life if we simply make the effort to better understand the subject of oral health and take the extra time to keep our teeth and gums fit. |

More Than One In Three U.S. Adults Never Get A Second Opinion... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“People worry that docs will be offended if a patient asks for a second opinion. That’s simply not true. In fact, if your doctor seems uncomfortable with your desire to seek a second opinion, you can fire him or her. It’s your body after all, not your doctor’s. Doctors deal with life and death, specifically your life and death. Get it right before you commit to a plan of treatment.” |

I receive an awful lot of questions about oral
health from readers. It is very hard to give each
the individual attention they may deserve so Ill
begin posting these questions in the OraMedia
Newsletter and will begin archiving them at the
OraMedia site.
This week's question from a reader: "What is the OraMedia View on Fluoride?" -A.M.J. Thank you for writing. There are two sides to this coin. Yes, fluoride, in its different forms is toxic when ingested. On the other hand, fluoride, as a topical application, does aid in remineralization of tooth enamel by assisting calcium and phosphorus ions in building a stronger molecular bond. Science supports that... |

Are You at Risk for Periodontal Disease? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you have wanted to know just where you stand in
respect to periodontal risks, you should perform the
BANA test on yourself to get a good idea of that
risk and knowing that risk level can help motivate
you to get on the road to better oral hygiene.
Better oral hygiene = better overall health.
Performing the test 30-45 days later can aslo tell you if you are being effective in dealing with the risk of gum disease and tooth decay. Also on the page linked to this article is an abstract on the sidebar, titled, 'BANA as accurate as DNA testing for periodontal pathogens.' |

A few more teeth to go... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Based on the traffic to the OraMedia site over the
past 10 years, I am guessing that we may have had an
impact on about 7 million teeth, to date. With over
6 billion people on the planet, however, we have a
long way to go...
