Greetings! This will be one of the last OraMedia Newsletters keystroked from Upstate, NY. In October, my father went through heart surgery in South Carolina, where he is recovering nicely. Over the past decade, nearly everyone in my family had relocated to the Carolinas from New York - I remained, however, vowing to make the move in 2007, after my daughter finished school. My father's operation got me thinking about wanting to be closer to the folks, and a trip back down during the recent holidays clinched it. My daughter and I found a home, a school and quite a few new friends urging us on to the Carolinas... You really shouldn't notice any blips in the OraMedia site or newsletter, unless the Carolina sun and ocean have some effect on my attitude resulting in some increased creativity and inspiration... I'm counting on it. As far as the site itself goes, we've gained considerable ranking position on the internet in the past 30 days due to a lot more attention, hard work and savvy advice from friends all over the world, including Scott Baker in Lexington, KY, Marilyn Jacobs in Boca Raton, FL, my buddy, Tom Spaulding, of course and most of all, Bob & Ruth Nara, who turned my world upside down in 2004 with their wit and wisdom. I expect a far better site in 2005 with more content and a richer experience for each visitor who wants to do more for his or her oral health and relative overall health. Anyway, goodbye New York (heck, I'd still like a get-away in Midtown Manhattan) and hello South Carolina coast... |

New Direction for OraMedia Newsletter ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Since being re-acquainted with Nara's '7 Factors'
transcript, I decided it would be important to focus
on one or two of these issues in each newsletter;
Nutrition, Frame of Reference, Options, Knowledge,
Understanding the Biological Balance, Taking Action
and Money...
This issue will touch on Nutrition and Money. I know that both are very controversial subjects and everyone has an opinion about works best for them. However, the bottom line is the bottom line - however that is acheived - and as far as I'm concerned, if it works, it's valid.

NUTRITION: The Success of Supplements May be Their Undoing ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
![]() Many years ago I was representing a client selling a homeopathic product that, because of its huge success, had encountered the unwanted attention of the Food and Drug Administration. In a meeting with one of the FDA agents in charge of its investigation of that product, I was told in a moment of candor that "We are only interested in taking action against your client's product, or any other homeopathic product for that matter, because it has been successful." "That's ridiculous," I remember thinking at the time, "they are attacking my client's product and putting us to all this expense and trouble simply because a lot of consumers want to buy it and it's therefore a threat to existing orthodox drug products." |

Judge nixes Pfizer mouthwash ad ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
![]() The federal judge's ruling relates to complaints by Johnson & Johnson's McNeil-PPC Inc., a subsidiary that sells dental floss, about an advertisement that claims "Listerine's as effective as floss at fighting plaque and gingivitis." |

More on Manuka Honey ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
![]() I was told by the apiary that the particular batch we were fortunate to get had a UMF of over 20 (I expected 16, which would've been just fine...). Many people have written and asked when I will place another order and January 24th looks like the date. Go to http://mizar5.com/honeyorder.html for details. In the meantime, here is a research paper by Dr. Peter Molan on the honey & oral wellness. Honey has been used as a medicine throughout the ages, and in more recent times has been "rediscovered" by the medical profession for treatment of burns, infected wounds and skin ulcers. The large volume of literature reporting its effectiveness indicates that honey has therapeutic features that indicate it has potential for the treatment of periodontal disease, mouth ulcers and other problems of oral health. Honey has a potent broad-spectrum antibacterial activity that rapidly clears infection from wounds when applied topically, which may make it suitable for "anti-infective" treatment of periodontal disease as well as for clearing infection in mouth ulcers and wounds from oral surgery. |

Money ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
![]() "...Number seven is that typical factor, that all of us have had some contact with at sometime in our lives, called money. Now, is there anyone here today that who at some time or another in their life has not been motivated by money? That you are so pure that you have never said that, "Well if I do it this way, I'll earn a little more money, or if I sell more of this, I make more money or if I get a better job, I make more money." So obviously, we have at a given time and place all of us have been motivated by this factor we call money. Now, your motivation is very simply this: You can save yourself a lot of money, and if you have children you can save yourself even more money. Because children's dentistry is very expensive, including by the way, orthodontics..." - Dr. Robert Nara Dr. Nara saw the motivation behind many in the dental profession and even devoted a book to it, entitled, 'Money by the Mouthful' ( http://mizar5.com/mm.html ). This ties in with the motivation of govenment and Big Pharma we alluded to in our article on Nutrition above. Yes, you can save a lot of money once you see how the game is played and how easy it is to care for your teeth and gums and those of your children. Money is a strange subject. Many of us will reveal most anything about ourselves except our finances. Some of us do well with our money others don't handle it well at all... If we saved $1000 dollars this year because of taking better care of our teeth, we might never see it at the end of the year anyway! There is a neat little program I ran across for managing money called 'AceMoney.' AceMoney is a great program for managing multiple accounts, creating and managing budgets, tracking investments and spending habits, paying bills and even handling the finances of an e-business. I found it much easier to use than Quicken and... you can download it for free right now. Good time to do it, isn't it? |

Created with miniature video cameras strapped to this majestic Golden Eagle, these images are allowing NASA scientists to create airplanes of the future based on studying this bird's wing and tail movements during flight. Watch it and you'll see what I mean. |
