Try this transformation on a leather jacket you don't wear anymore, due to its fit, style, etc.  I was experimenting and came up with a handbag & cropped bolero style jacket, using the belt as bag straps, and the existing jacket lining as the lining for the bag.  I was also able to use the existing front welt pockets on the front of the bag. 

A fun project...just be sure to test a larger needle to sew through the leather! (I tried a "leather needle" but switched to a #16 or 18 universal instead.) More photos...
