Positive sign of job growth continues
The new fiscal year reflects positive signs for our local businesses. Since October 1, we have assisted four companies with anticipated job growth of 244 jobs over the next three years. Two were expansions of existing Sarasota businesses and two were relocations to our area.
The Sarasota County Film & Entertainment Office has also seen continued increase in production requests and interest in filming or shooting here in Sarasota County. The Film Office has assisted 72 productions totaling over $900,000 in economic impact during the first two months of the new fiscal year. R&D Grants Writing Workshop SuccessThe grant preparation workshop hosted by the EDC on November 4 and led by Greenwood Consulting Group was attended by over 25 local companies. The attendees learned how to apply for federal funding in excess of $2.5 billion available annually for research and development of new technology and products.
Still time to enter TV ME! Contest Someone will be going to LA, it could be you. This is a unique, fresh opportunity for creative people who may have no experience as a scriptwriter or producer, but do have a new and different idea for television content. It requires only a five to fifteen page "pitch" of that idea and a small entry fee. The grand prize winner will be escorted to personal meetings in Los Angeles with executives in network, cable and independent television production to deliver his or her pitch one-on-one. Tampa Bay Partnership releases the first phase of the Regional Business Plan With Sarasota County as the southernmost county within the Tampa Bay Partnership, this regional plan includes our area. The Tampa Bay region has embarked upon a major effort to understand regional economic strengths and opportunities and to craft an ambitious, yet implementable, plan that will lead to job creation and greater economic diversification. This plan is a vehicle for action that ensures our region maintains focus, acts strategically, and improves continuously in our efforts to create quality jobs. Implementing the Regional Business Plan is a process of engaged and diverse community, business, workforce and education leaders ensuring the communities of Tampa Bay make the right investments, create the right policies and build the right infrastructure to support and grow the next generation of jobs that will build sustainable, inclusive and real prosperity.
