Greetings from PARCA

Dear PARCA Supporter,

Summer is here, and PARCA is working hard to provide you with useful data so that you can be more informed about local and state government in Alabama.

This month, we take a look at the finances of the four largest counties in Alabama.  We have created an "apples to apples" comparison in order to give you the most accurate depiction of how these counties compare.

I hope you find this information useful.  Thanks so much for your support!

Jim Williams

Executive Director

Jefferson County Financial Comparison

How do Jefferson County's revenues compare to those of other large counties in Alabama?  PARCA has prepared some basic financial comparisons, and you might be surprised by the results.

Below is table, excerted from the analysis, which shows a comparison of FY 2010 revenues for Alabama's four largest counties.  It has been adjusted for the loss of Jefferson County's Occupational Tax.  As you can see, Jefferson County would have comparable revenue availability, even without the tax.
